West Shore RCMP said they received a call from a witness around 9:55 p.m. PT March 21, who told police they had seen the driver speed onto a sidewalk and crash into the sign before driving away.
in the community of View Royal, about six kilometres west of Victoria, where they found the sign crumpled on the ground, along with a licence plate from the vehicle.
Moments later, he was notified by Victoria Police that they had stopped the driver believed to be responsible.
"So he actually picked up the licence plate and the sign and brought it with him," RCMP Cpl.
Nancy Saggar said, adding he then placed the sign in front of the impounded vehicle and took a picture.
Saggar said although the photo snapped by the officer does offer some comedic relief, the act itself was dangerous and it is fortunate the driver was stopped before causing further damage or injury.
