It was far too much fun for no particular reason.

Everyone's minds are going straight to porn, but I have an explanation for this:

There is a lot of lore in OW; Blizzard has a ton of videos on YouTube that do a deep dive into it. Entire mini episodes of the stuff. My nieces and nephews (all under the age of 8) love every OW video Blizzard uploads. They didn't know there was a game, either. To them it's just another cartoon.

It is waaaaay too easy for anyone to go on a r34 site these days lol

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago

The worst is when you come across story spoilers for something in your backlog when you're browsing.

These days? Mah boi, back in my day you'd very easily end up accidentally watching something horribly illegal just seconds before your computer is bricked by a Trojan.

Sometimes, you weren't even looking for porn!

[–] [email protected] 39 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I remember the first porn site I ever went on.

It was whitehouse.com and I was looking for Whitehouse.gov.

It was in the school library too. On a beige crt monitor!

Life was simpler back then.

I remember back in 1998 in my Desktop Publishing class, a girl wanted to sign up for an email address. I told her to go to hotmail.com to create one. She typed in hotmale.com and got a whole different kind of website than she was expecting.

the lawless years of the internet were beautiful, i experienced most of them when i was a child, and i turned out normal (that's a lie, of course, i'm unsure how watching happy tree friends or one man one jar at 12 years old fucked me up, but i'm sure it did, somehow)

these days?

I've had r34 sites bookmarked in 2000, when I was a teenager

[–] [email protected] 30 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (4 children)

Sure, but you weren't accessing those sites from a computer that fit in your pocket and that you carried around with you at all times.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The internet had a phone number! You had to call in, and pay by the minute!

Not until Blackberries and the Sidekick were a thing.

Not at all, a magazine is basically a computer but with faster data access speeds while sacrificing some read/write capabilities.

Also, like Lemmy, video is not supported.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago (10 children)

What do you mean by video not being supported on Lemmy?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 week ago

Jokes aside, seems to be an issue with apps supporting it, because it does work on the web app which means Lemmy itself does support it.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Forgot to mention but .mp3 is also supported

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

For @[email protected] it also didn't load and you both seem to not be using the default lemmy interface which seems to be the common factor, if you come on this thread in the default lemmy interface you can see both https://sh.itjust.works/comment/18867622

I guess both interfaces of you two dont support video embeds, maybe someone didn't report this issue yet in their repo

It was a mp4 video and it displays fine for me, but heres a webm and tell me if you can watch this one

Probably your interface, lemmy default interface seems to display fine .mp4 .webm .mp3 the devs maintaining the interface you're using either havent been made aware of it not working or just simply need this compatibility to be ported over

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

yeah, i guess jerboa just doesn't have that feature yet

That isn't Lemmy, that is just your client.
