Oh no, thr little bittergourds that I thought weren't bitter, are in fact bitter :( I picked firm, hard, green ones but actually should've gone for the softer and darker ones. Ideally they would be turning orange.

Here's the lickle gourds

and here's the finished curry though not the most photogenic

More bitter than I expected BUT lovely texture with the soft flesh, firmer skin, and crunchy seeds. Though it took an hour of cooking for them to soften.

I've seen these in the market, but wondered what to do with them. Thanks for elucidating.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

I've never seen nor heard of those in my 40 years of time on this planet. Goes to show you can always be amazed.

If you enjoyed the silliness of the Kingsmen movies, Argylle might be for you. Or if you just want a couple of hours of enjoying a fine-as-hell Bryce Dallas Howard doing her thing.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Did you enjoy it?

From the trailer I saw it looked ok.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

I'd say I enjoyed it. It's hard not to enjoy a movie with Sam Rockwell being full Sam Rockwell in it though.

It's bin night tonight and there is a lot of disagreement in the street about which bin is due for collection. A lot of people will be disappointed tomorrow when their recycling is not collected.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago

A triumph of hope over reality. If enough of us put out our recycling, maybe the council will pick it up anyway ...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Seems like we have the same bin cycle. Mine are out and so is the recycling bin.

If occasionally forget which one to put out but my neighbour reminds me of I get it wrong.

How shit is a Friday morning bin collection though? Have to keep the weekend's rubbish for almost an entire week. :( I miss Monday morning collections, they were the best.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

I think I’m just used to it but you’ve got a point about that, I’ve had to adjust some of my rubbish so it lines up close to my bin day!

I tried mug cake for the first time tonight. It was ok. Could do with a bit of cream or icecream next time.

My head, my jaw,
My eyes are sore.
Teeth like stones,
Grind like bones
Into dust.

I went to the dentist for the first time in about 5 years tonight. I need three replacement crowns and a root canal. I shall have negative monies.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Ouch. In multiple ways.

I have a tooth that is far beyond a root canal and needs to be surgically extracted. I have a specialist appointment in a couple of months so I should find out how many of my firstborn children I'll need to give over then. After that there will be a couple of implants in my future, so many $$$ will be needed. I've been putting it all off much longer than I should but it is a lot of money. Watching my mother struggle to eat with bad teeth is highly motivating though.

I'm so salty that dental isn't on Medicare

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago

have you considered dental tourism? Thailand is very popular, as is India. They are expert and much cheaper than here.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 months ago

Going for a walk in the evenings in summer is very pleasant. Much easier to find the motivation when it’s daylight savings and nice weather.

Watching a fine art channel. Paint looks fun. Completely impractical for me so I'll just watch

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

Paint is fun. People who sell the kit bits can be total Aholes. Apparently I don’t look like the sort of person who can afford to drop 15 on a stringer/rigger. Condescending ass.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

I've been doing a lot of study about painting, and seriously, it's just colouring in but you make your own picture

Two and a half weeks of panadol and I think I am habituated. 🀬 And it's just fucking panadol, nothing worth this mild groggy headache.

On a positive note sciatica is slowly getting better, with lots of rest I am comfortable.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 7 months ago (3 children)

About 20 years ago when I had my wisdom teeth out they sent me home with codeine. I didn't need it but I was mellow for 4 days straight.

Now days if you have pain they tell you to just take panadol. BUT I'VE HAD THE GOOD STUFF. PANADOL DON'T WORK

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I got put on Panadol osteo for chronic pain. 8 tablets a day. Did nothing for pain, but give me epic diahrrea. Stopped taking it when I got out of hosp. Unfortunately everything else has intolerable side effects (breathing difficulty, extreme dizziness etc).

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

I've been reading the reddit for sciatica. The untreated suffering is terrible. πŸ˜” I'm lucky, I'm going to be better in 2 weeks, there are people who are long term disabled by pain, young people, and they get no relief.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (3 children)

the hospital gave me one endone and I basically had to stay there the whole 6 hours it was effective. Went home with nothing.

it seems to me unless you are dying patients get nothing

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

To be honest ibuprofen might be better for sciatica. Or a combination of ibby + panny.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

Doctors are too scared to prescribe. But the problem is that people genuinely in need are left to suffer and have their ability to function affected because of ineffective pain managment. Surely there is a better way, eg to risk assess a patient, prescribe smaller pack sizes etc. It’s not right that people cannot get their medical conditions treated in the age of modern medicine due to some blanket idea that everyone will misuse the medication. There is currently a government inquiry into women’s pain that is taking submissions: https://www.health.vic.gov.au/public-health/inquiry-into-womens-pain-submissions

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

That isn’t right. I don’t know how to make them hand over the stuff that might work but just Panadol is bullshit. And β€œmight” it is because you’ve got to try it to know… duh

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (2 children)

They don't give codeine any more? When did that change?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

A few years ago it was changed to prescription only. Used to be able to buy over the counter.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Oh I don't know if they still give them out it's just back then they used to give them out like lollies.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago

I for one quite enjoy lollies.

Started using bonito flakes or dropping treats into the bowl to entice Melbcat to eat her medicated meals...

She will now walk away from served food and start slamming the wardrobe door or waiting in the kitchen for 'food' if it doesn't have enough tasty toppings on it. I also have to add the treats in front of her, sometimes an extra one just to convince her they're in there. I'm being hustled. She is utterly spoilt.

I'm feeling pretty rotten, kind of just lying down watching videos.

Somebody is going back to the vet on Saturday, wondering if I've got the energy to wash and prepare the trays to get a sample.
