After the second season of severance I kinda feel done with current TV. Like sure it's fine but like phew

did it fall off? I dont want to get invested to once again disappointed by a second season. And I here thought the 3/4 season syndrome was a thing.

I mean it's fine. It's just that I've got no patience whatsoever for these mystery box shows anymore. All the discourse around these things is just so done and boring and it all feels like the same slop. Like just give me a movie that's 90 minutes long and then it's done

I thought it was a really solid 2nd season, but the consensus seems to be a slight dropoff from season 1. I think it's worth the watch.

El Eternauto was pretty good for a Netflix show. Based on an Argentinian scifi story formt he 50's.

Hirokazu Koreeda released a tv show recently. I only watched the pilot but it looks promising. His stories usually have a humanist approach of characters who fall outside the 'norm.'

The Pitt ended recently, a medical drama where the whole season comprised of one shift with each episode being an hour of that shift.

Yellowjackets. Season 3 just finished airing. Season 4 hopefully finishes filming by the end of the year and we don't have to deal with delays.

All the trigger warnings for this show, though. It's about cannibalism and the trauma from reaching that level of desperation.

Murderbot just started up.

Things that have been out that you should have watched.

Damnation - there was only one season made and once you've watched it you'll understand how lucky that was.

I hear good things, but I was never really into cringe comedy.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

In season 2, the cringe comedy is really just how Nathan convinced HBO to give him a blank check. It's a really minor part of the show, and in s2e1 he even talks about how he's trying to do something really serious and impactful, but he has a contract with HBO to make a comedy show, so he's going to have to throw some comedy in to fulfill his contract. But that's really not the point of the show at all.

It's far more than cringe comedy. Nathan Fielder is perhaps the funniest person working in entertainment right now. The Rehearsal is a masterpiece that posits its impossible for any human to ever truly "understand" another, and demonstrates this in very funny ways. It skirts this insane line between total farce and genuinely insightful and sincere.

It's a lot more than that.
