MODERATORS

There is a spector haunting Lemmy, the spector of trans people that disagree with you.

Liberals on Lemmy are ridiculously fast to let fly all sorts of conspiracy theories if it means discrediting any trans people to the left of them. Worse still, is that this behaviour is reinforced by Lemmy mods, look at this ban Cowbee copped for the crime of being allegedly uncivil to this transphobe:

Every day, I'm glad for you fuckers building at least this tiny queer safespace on the internet. Death to the cis, etc.

It's truly depressing seeing the continuous right-wing slide of Lemmy.world. It isn't surprising, of course, but they'd rather ban people calling out transphobia for being "aggressive" than address the transphobes, and that says a lot about their moderators actual stances.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

odd that they also accused me of being "aggressive" as well when i rarely comment there; sounds coordinated.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago

Absolutely. It's a behavioral pattern.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Your comment wasn't even that aggressive. It is fully within the bounds of civil discourse by their standards. You've clearly pinned them as transphobic in a way they can't even reconcile, so instead of dealing with this contradiction you've presented, they bury you. It's everything they claim places like Russia or China are about. The federation model of decentralizing services really does lead to little fiefdoms run by petty lords.

Edit: But we love our petty lords here, don't we folks!? alphys-anxious

100%. They side with transphobes when it's Leftists calling them out, because it helps obscure the nature of their particular method of censorship. Now, censorship can be a good thing when combatting misinformation and bigotry, of course, but that's the opposite of .world's methods here.

Defederation is the most you can do to censor an entire group of people. It looks less obvious because you don't see removed comments, but it shuts out speech. Leftists are generally more up front and honest about what they censor and why, while .world and sh.itjust.works try to pretend that they don't censor at all.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Yet, they recently made that announcement about the site requiring "Civil Disagreement" in all communities. It leaves one to wonder how much of their actions are intentional, or if they truly believe they're acting in a civil and just manner.

Look, if we can have civil war, I don't see why we can't have civil disagreement that includes cannons is all I'm saying

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago

Pretty sure they are "true believers." When their hypocricy is pointed out, they double down.

The meanwhile on grad thread about this is even worse, CW transphobia:

spoiler

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Peaked back into that thread, a gem: (no CW needed)

"Cowbee isn’t just another tankie. He knows his theory and will use it to dazzle you with bullshit."

Lmao he-laughed

Would be especially funny if we could have it detect your username and pronouns and do it that way, but I don't know how hard that is to accomplish.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

The username part isn't very hard, there are already taglines that do that, but the pronouns is a bit more difficult. I think the current taglines just use "they/them".

[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Hm. I've seen some users explain why they (collective) don't like to be referred to by they/them pronouns, so that might be a different discussion.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Oh yea, I'm kinda in that group.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago

I'm aware, haha. Knew some others were in that group too, I probably could have worded that better.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago

On the bright side, some comrades are calling out how horrible that post is, though minimal.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Yep, imaqtpie tried to tell me Hexbear is "more bigoted" yet is peddling alt-right conspiracy theories that

cw: transphobiaForeign nations are "transing" the youth.

Unsurprising from the instance that maintains MWoG and NCD.

he is an admin of sh.itjust.works

[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (2 children)

Oh I'm aware, they got really mad when I suggested that defederation is censorship. Here's a "fun" thread to read where they spell it out. Even accuses HB of being more bigoted than sh.itjust.works and had an edgy monologue like they were Sephiroth.

liberal-scratched-1 liberal-scratched-2

For clarity, censorship can be a good thing. Removing bigotry and misinformation is good. Suggesting that you aren't doing so is manipulative and dishonest, though, and clearly sh.itjust.works has bigoted admins.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Sephiroth

although he's being an edgy bigot, i really hate this trend of calling anything with passion in it 'sephiroth posting' like come on

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago

Fair, who do you suggest? I mostly used it because I saw others using it. It was impassioned but purely because they were getting flustered from getting called out.

Genuinely asking, I have no attachment to the phrasing whatsoever.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

lol i read that he is a diehard treatler

Did you post about your ban/removal on [email protected] ?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Nah, I'd rather not do that as the weirdos on MWoG are already relatively obsessed with me and I'd rather not give them ammo for me being "drama obsessed" or something. I could have done it earlier when they perma-banned me from Political Memes for calling out the moderators on removing comments explaining how the Democrats are complicit in Palestinian genocide, but didn't for similar reasons.

I'm 100% fine if someone else wants to make a post, though, I'd just rather not do it myself.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Very mature and cool headed of you. Still shit that we need to be the bigger people.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I agree, but over time I've come to realize that as much dirt as they smear on leftists, eventually they reveal their real character, such as when they defend transphobia or

cw: transphobia from sh.itjust.works adminClaim there's a conspiracy from foreign countries to intentionally "trans the youth" into radicalization against the US Empire

Eventually these contradictions put them out of touch with their more "normal" userbase, we win when they damage themselves. Doesn't hurt to help the process along, though, which is why I'm not against anyone making a post about it if they feel so obligated.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I agree, long term, we'll win out. It just sucks to see it in the present.

Why would anyone pretend to be trans with how much shit they have to take.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

See, that's the strangest part. Transphobes do post-hoc justifications to reconfirm their biases, regardless of any actual merit.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

projection

We're gonna wear this emoji out soon.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It would be worn into dust if you peaked into MWoG for any length of time.

Sometimes I get morbid curiosity, that Frisish user apparently has me listed as "tankie influencer" which is kinda cute. The biggest thing though is that it's overwhelmingly clear that any vague notions of being "left, just anti-tankie" is immediately overrun with defense of transphobia, anti-leftism, anti-DEI, anti-"wokeness" alt-right talking points, and it's abundantly clear that no user there actually has read Marx.

As an example, one visitor had recently read Anti-Dühring from Engels and was confused as to why a MWoG post was titled something along the lines of "banned for knowing Marxsim better than an ML," yet the body of the post showing the supposed knowledgable user's takes contradicted what they had read with Engels. The mod on MWoG proceded to talk down to them and claim the Bolsheviks were anti-Marxist for the NEP and that it was the SRs and Mensheviks who knew better, and that the Nazi led Hungarian revolt was a "real worker movement."

Very silly place indeed.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

agony-deep

"If we treat you like a human being, the Russians win somehow."

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

"how can there be 50% trans people that's so unrealistic"

  • user who has never been to a gay bar
[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago

That part was especially baffling. Like, you're getting accused of transphobia and are defending it, and you wonder why trans people flock to explicitly trans-positive instances? Do they not see the connection there, that perhaps the queer side may indeed have a point?
