A cousin and I have been competing for years to see how many times around we can go before we either stymie another driver or get pulled over.

I'm currently winning at 43. Neither of us have ever been pulled over, it's always some irate grandma who refuses to enter even though I give her plenty of room.

A dew days ago ist saw an older Dude in a Bike, taking all the left turns in one of our roundabout. (Germany) I know that he rode for at least 3 hours. He wanted to reach 200 rounds, i think. Hope he made it.

in germany driving around pointlessly is illegal i think

It is, but you have to do something really abstract, like this meme, to not be able to come up with some excuse that nobody cares to verify.

I wonder if it came about in the times when fuel was very expensive. A German physio I used to go to, told me when he was a kid they would have car free Sunday. Everyone walked or biked and the roads were full of pedestrians, it certainly would have cut 1/7th of the fuel usage.

In my country it's forbidden to drive in the roundabout for longer than necessary to reach the desired exit.

Time is the 4th dimension right? Could you argue that you are trying to react the location of the exit at a specific location in time, therefore you have to make extra circles to reach your exit.

Roundabouts force you to turn Left! It's Political!!

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm in the UK, they force you to turn right.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 days ago

Well that explains the Liberal party

If you confuse and distract other drivers, that's endangering traffic and police will remove you.

Despite what many people think/have heard, most places do not have a specific law against doing loops in a roundabout. And when they do it is often a local ordinace(mostly small towns trying to prevent a local car community from driving up and down the main street all night). Although other laws or regulations can apply depending on circumstances.

Things like impeding/obstructing traffic, careless/reckless driving, noise ordinance, etc. But if you're driving around one in an industrial area at night, the worst you'll get is probably some accusing questions and a "warning".

Look kids! Big Ben! Parliament!

[–] [email protected] 26 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I believe the UK has a law for this and it's 7 times.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago

There's no such law in the UK.

Norway here. I'm sure I've heard 7 somewhere too.

I don't think there's a specific rule but if you obstruct traffic unnecessarily you're breaking veitrafikkloven §3

"Everyone must travel with consideration and be alert and cautious so that no danger arises or damage is caused and so that other traffic is not unnecessarily obstructed or disturbed."

Where I grew up there was a russeknute for driving around the roundabout (there was only one) 20 times. Traffic was reasonably heavy during normal rush hours, but every May evening the obstructed traffic was other drives waiting for their turn to do their 20 laps.

As far as I know, nobody were ticketed.

fwiw, I personally know for a fact that 15 to 20 minutes is fine. Ask me about other ironically bad first date ideas

[–] [email protected] 30 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Dont feel bad, my first date with my fiancée was at a grocery store

[–] [email protected] 40 points 1 week ago (2 children)

No way that's where I had my first prune

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

explanation? what is a prune?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 6 days ago

A prune is a dried plum. And a date is the (often dried) fruit of the date palm tree.

This joke explanation brought to you by fiber. It's good for you!

I almost died on the toilet because of this comment.

How about other ironically bad first date ideas?

One of my personal faves: Told this girl in college that we were gonna go to a place called Donnie's steakhouse. She got somewhat dressed up for the occasion. Donnie's is just McDonalds. If they've got a good sense of humor (and she did), they'll get a good kick out of it. Although it may take a day or two.
