I never knew Canada was even in this game.

Seems this company lost a substantial part of their American investment money (Bezos), and is in danger of shutting down completely. Time for our federal government to come to the plate.

Or maybe China will fill the funding shortfall, and share the prize. Unlimited fusion power in a decade or so.

Im legit concerned that anything the fed govt gets established… the next time we have a conservative govt, they’ll either sell it or dismantle it if they can’t sell it.

You mean like Dief the Chief, under the Conservative banner, dismantled the Avro Arrow? I hear you.

Unlimited fusion power in a decade or so.

As it has always been.

The only thing it can't do is leave the lab.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

I don't think anyone can actually do fusion power in the lab either. The only energy positive way to do fusion power is within a nuclear fission explosion isn't it?

I wonder why? The funding increased somewhat in the last decade, which probably had a handy in the new milestones that were achieved, but now we have a state of global uncertainty that is going to impact a lot of major research funding for the next 4 years or so, so I don't expect major changes in the next 10 years.

And so the cycle continues.

Here is a great opportunity for Mark Carney to demonstrate support for Western Canadian technology and innovation. Get this fully funded and let's get this fusion train rolling.

I highly doubt that practical fusion is going to emerge from a small scale private lab. The chances that they're a hype-driven sinkhole for capital is high. Bezos pulling funding out raises my suspicions higher. This should be audited by fusion experts from Canadian public institutions and only if it doesn't look like a scam, fund it.

Say what you want, this was peer reviewed and an established fact. It attracted the attention of Bezos as an investor. It actually has been reviewed by fusion expert, and definitely not a scam. The Canadian government has already investigated and has funded it. This is reality.

I hope it is all that and I turn out to be a jaded cynic that'll be proven wrong. :D

That's not to say it could go the way of the Avro Arrow.
