Back in my day, if you were walking down the street in fishnet stockings and a leopard print fur coat, you'd get called a tart

A similar thing would happen if you were a pastry base with that amount of topping on you

I just don't understand people who choose NY pizza over Chicago. It really makes no sense to me. There's no comparison. I adore a proper NY slice, but it's nothing on the event that is Chicago pizza.

It really depends on what someone's in the mood for.

I'm from just outside NYC, and I enjoy ALL kinds of pizza. NY pies, Grandma-style Sicilian pies, Chicago deep dish, Detroit rectangle pies, Philly tomato pies...

They're all different and they offer different things.

A good New York slice fresh from the oven is gooey and cheesy and melty and the tartness of the sauce mixes with the creaminess of the cheese.

Chicago casserole pies are really like eating PIE, but it's all delicious cheese and tomato.

Sicilian and tomato pies have that wonderful focaccia style crust that absorbs all the flavor from the cheese, sauce, and olive oil.

Detroit pies have that great caramelization on the edges, and the brick cheese gives it a unique flavor and body.

Life is too short to fight over pizza. Just don't eat shitty pizza.

I’d rather eat my pizza like a solid, not a soup. Apparently you have never tried wood fired Neapolitan. It’s like eating a fine steak to your worst cut possible

Hmmm. Pizza casserole or greasy cardboard. Definitely going for casserole.

Hmm, actual pizza or soggy tomato cake.

What a choice.

Soggy? You must be getting your Chicago pizza from all the places I’m getting greasy soggy cardboard from. Sorry to hear.

Yea, Chicago. I accept your apology.

Most pizza isn’t super greasy, just the ones who use really oily cheese. But admittedly some can be really bad

My take on deep dish.

I spent 36 hours in Chicago, wonderful city, amazing culinary opportunities. I ate 5 deep dish pizzas in that time, pequads, dinos, Uno's, .... Can't remember the other two... Each of them were unique, offered a different style, pequads was my favorite but I didn't appreciate the wait to have it brought out (I'm used to waiting for a deep dish, but man that was a wait, excellent cheesey burn on the outside of the crust). Old Chicago Pizza in Petaluma California is better than any deep dish that I had in Chicago. No disrespect to Chicago, but if you find yourself just north of San Francisco it's worth a visit to the old brothel that currently has one of the best pizza experiences on the planet.

I may have overloaded myself on deep dish pizza, it may have been my palette appreciating something different, but "the publican" was the best meal I had in Chicago. I have even ordered their mail order brunch a couple times, it has yet to disappoint.

I don't dislike Stewart's take on it though XD

As delicious as that may be, it is not a pizza; it is a casserole.

You don't need to apologize for it being hilarious

I’ve had both from places recommended by locals, I’ll take New York pizza any day.

100%. I do love wood fired Neopolitan

As a native Chicagoan, do yourselves the favor of having tavern pizza instead of deep dish/stuffed pizza. Tavern pies are the real Chicago pizzas. Personally Beggars is my go-to.

And if you really must have this nasty slop of a pizza, try Pequods.

Are those the cracker crust cut into squares? Heaven! My favorite pizza of all time, but I eat them all

My thoughts: if you put sauce and cheese on bread I don't care what you call it, I'm gonna eat it

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

See, that's where we're different. I do care what you call it.

... But I'm still gonna eat it.

Well it does look better than normal deep dish

It’s a pizza by pizza basis agreed, but let’s not encourage pizza dogmatism.
