I had actual friends for precisely two years of high school. Mostly just been coworkers, people at the wrong time for socialization, and people I’m afraid to talk to since. Been on three dates, none of which went anywhere. Pretty much didn’t know anyone that wasn’t a coworker or family for my entire 20s. My social skills have been atrophying for like fifteen years

I used Facebook back around 2009 when I felt obligated to do so to keep up with friends from school, and then I came out as trans and basically nuked my social circle. While I'm friendly with people at work and I'd call them work friends, every time I've really tried to bridge the gap from work to personal it's fizzled out primarily because I don't use social media and I'm fine with that. I like having a small handful of people I really like and trust. Some of my best friendships formed away from social media, on the remnants of internet 1.0. This guy's idea of the future of friendship means just alienating you more from the people directly in your life and pushing you towards a walled garden of his creation where you only talk to "people" he wants you to who will make you just happy enough to stay hooked but not satisfied so you have to come back.
Most of the time when people pine for the old internet they mean the time before this fuckin guy

I'm very upset that I can see that being a marketing message strategy from the Liberals and DNC. They would say that or something like "Loneliness isn't a problem, it's an OPPORTUNITY!" /

well if you have certain "values" you could move to Siberia. Or enough money to buy a rundown shack in southern italy.
Or you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile.

I kinda hate how it's also accepted that in adulthood, like, no one is expected to have time for anyone anymore, so you just never hang out.
being queer is awesome tbh, the community is always there for a party
Half the underground parties with obscure music are actually just transfem events
