"This is really going to impact institutions that we take for granted," Internet Archive director of archiving and data services Jefferson Bailey told the Standard, "like our museums, our historical societies, our public libraries, our academic libraries — just a lot of people that keep information free and accessible and online."

I am not now, nor have I ever been a Christian, but shit like this makes me go Jesus Fucking Christ.

Archive.org is a critical repository of knowledge and archiving the internet. Elon has cut nothing, but damaged a ton. It is kinda incredible how many damage he has done.

Extremists always destroy history so they can write their own.

Elon Musk is what you’d get if you gave the illusion of personality to a 4Chan troll.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 2 days ago

He's the poster child for scared, greedy, paranoid nepo babies shielded from reality by wealth inheritance and wealth inequality, incapable of empathy turning him into a fascist bigot idiot trying to kill other people to hoard more money.

Like those villains that are made of million of insects, each cell in Musk’s body is a 4chan troll.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago

Oooooh I like that idea. Horrific imagery, but clever.

Both the Internet Archive and Wikipedia are really important. I guess the way is to make alternatives or datahoard in these difficult times.

Downloading and accessing Wikipedia offline through Kiwix is actually pretty easy.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 days ago (2 children)

How does it work? Does it download all Wikipedia or any other website I point it to (like Project Gutenberg as it says on the website) pages or does it download it when I access the page?

[–] [email protected] 36 points 3 days ago

Pedabytes, but you can help in other ways. Donating, uploading and the Archive Warrior. There may be waits to support via torrents too but I do not know.

Who else is waiting to see "DOGE Cuts Funding for Wikipedia"?

[–] [email protected] 185 points 3 days ago (2 children)

The government funded them $345,000.

This is 100% spiteful and not an example of "wasteful government spending"

[–] [email protected] 32 points 3 days ago (2 children)

We can easily crowdfund this. Especially the parts regarding Republican fuckery.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 3 days ago (2 children)

America, where the good stuff is funded on the side.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Just join the party? Everybody knows the US is a steaming shitshow more than usual.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago

Elon Musk will go to any length to scrub this image from the Internet:

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He looks like what you’d get if you took a dick and made it a pussy.

I said, he looks like what you’d get if you took a dick and made it a pussy.

As in, he’s a dick (asshole), that’s a pussy (coward).

Hopefully this galvanizes support for them, like anti-boycotting essentially

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

Maybe, but likely only temporarily. Bad guys be winning.

They destroy the past to sell you a future. It's coercion and extortionate.

Well since I stopped paying federal taxes I might as well donate to the IA directly.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Get out of here you rich fucker!

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 days ago

Hahaha, I wish. It's more that I just stopped paying. I am sure it'll come back on me later but that's a future me problem.
