Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen says he has met with Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who immigration officials say was deported by error, in El Salvador on Thursday.

The senator shared a photo with Abrego Garcia at what appears to be a restaurant.

“I said my main goal of this trip was to meet with Kilmar,” Sen. Van Hollen said. “Tonight I had that chance. I have called his wife, Jennifer, to pass along his message of love. I look forward to providing a full update upon my return.”

I hate how everyone repeats the administration's claim that this was "in error." Bullshit. They absolutely did it on purpose. Being able to say "too late lol" is part of their plan, and it's a plausible enough excuse to reduce further scrutiny on all the other innocent people they shipped there.

The Trump administration is full of soulless monsters and they all need to be stopped, one way or another.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 10 hours ago

Why did he leave without him?

[–] [email protected] 17 points 22 hours ago

I'm absolutely shocked that he's still alive. Amazing.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 23 hours ago

Van Hollen has joined the ranks of Dems worth a shit, and Garcia needs to be brought home pronto

[–] [email protected] 27 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Lots of negative things to say about dems but Van Hollen did a good and difficult thing here. If more dems are willing to behave like him, we can get through this.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 hours ago

Sure, but Garcia is still stuck in the death camp. What happened here was basicly just a photo op. Nothing was won here. Hollen just seems more sympathetic now without having accomplished anything. Garcia is no closer to surviving this than before.

Never been so happy to be so wrong. I'm glad he's alive and functional, more Democrats need to follow up on the realities on the ground level.

Now I get why Booker went. Van Hollen was able to confirm he's alive, and being held illegally. As long as there is someone there with the ability to pressure the optics, they can't just "get rid of him" and the whole thing makes Trump look weak because these Congressmen can meet with him, but Trump can't get him out?

HitlerPig had the perfect opportunity to make a deal, but the media allowed him to slip the hook right in front of them, America and the world. The media in this country is so infuriating.

The El Salvador Dictator came to America, and sat with HitlerPig in the Oval office, along with Bondi and Rubio. The media asked if they were going to bring the guy back, and Bondi says its up to El Salvador. So they asked the El Salvador Dictator and he says "What am I supposed to do? Its not up to me to make decisions for another country, it's a preposterous question!"

Literally EVERY person in the world who could negotiate such a thing was sitting right there in that room, and none of the "journalists" suggested they work it out right now, with the whole world watching. They didn't even mention that SCOTUS had ruled that the administration had to bring him back. There was NEVER a better time to negotiate the deal, and they just let it slip by, and the media didn't call them on it.

If one journalist had said that the time to work this out is right now, and continued to insist they cut a deal right then, he would have become the most famous journalist in the world at that moment, but not one had the courage to do their job.

Last week, Peter Navarro was on Meet The Press, and the host never asked him a single question about his primary source for his tariff expertise being a phony expert whose name is an anagram of his own. Its all I would have talked about, but she never alluded to it at all, even at the end when he was blathering on with weird insincere flattery of the host (I got the idea that that's how he addresses HitlerPig). The guy is a total fraud, and yet he is in charge of our disastrous tariff strategy, and she can't ask him a single question about his obvious fraudulent qualifications on the subject.

The journalists in the White House Press Corps, and hosting shows like Meet The Press, are supposed to be the top journalists in their proffession, but they treat their jobs as if their only responsibility is to provide a platform for the worst people to present their propaganda as Truth, without any questions.

Yep... It also puts pressure on Bukele - I mean, remember his comments to the media

"I can't smuggle someone into the US, and I'm not willing to let them walk around my country, so I guess there's nothing to be done"

The man didn't say he wouldn't return them, he made it very clear the ball is in the US's court and he hasn't been asked to give him back. He said it was impossible to see the victim, and yet when a US senator still showed up they arranged all this

America is the customer buying a service here...a customer known for having a huge crew of assassins with lots of experience overthrowing South American countries

I'm not willing to let them walk around my country

Which is weird too, like he's not charged with a crime so what makes him different from a random El Salvadoran citizen?

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Bukele has been locking up random El Salvadorian citizens without charges...

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 day ago

Yeah, they chose El Salvador because they've literally abolished due process. It's like Cambodia again - someone accuses you and you're just instantly taken away. You MIGHT get to see a judge after you're imprisoned for a month or two, likely after you've been beaten half to death so you'll confess to anything just to make the pain stop. It's a dressed up version of Duterte's Philippines - we'll kidnap you and let you die, rather than just some death squad rolling up to your door (because that doesn't play well to the media and the other can be dressed up as "law and order").

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

Hmm, reminds me of another dickhead 🤔

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And why not walk him back to their private plane?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This is one of a couple hundred that have been sent here already. Maybe they want to get more than just one guy out and smuggling him out would hamper that ability more than it already is.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 23 hours ago

Understood, but for better or worse he is the face of the movement. This visit will be buried news in 24 hours.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

Ideally, they'd get them all out, and if Trump wants to fight it, great. They deserve due process, and punishments that do not violate the 8th amendagnt

[–] [email protected] 29 points 1 day ago

Thank god he’s alive

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 day ago

It’s probably the first time in weeks that he was given water that didn’t taste kinda nasty.

Are visits even allowed at the prison where he’s being held? If so, I guarantee that they don’t take place in a room as nice as this.

Do you think those are even his own clothes, or did somebody go out and buy some at the last minute? Did they force him to wear a hat in order to cover his prison haircut? I imagine he was wearing a prison jumpsuit not long before this photo was taken, and was ordered back into it as soon as the meeting was over.

They really went out of their way to stage something nice looking. It’s almost as if they don’t want the general public to dwell on what a horrific situation he’s in. Then you might start to think about the incompetence, injustice, and cruelty that’s keeping him there - and the system responsible.

So Trump starts a trade war with the whole damn world, demands the resources of a country ravaged by war, threatens to annex the territory of our allies and an entire ally, but when he "accidentally" deports someone who's supposed to be here to a foreign prison in fucking El Salvatore he's suddenly powerless to bring this one guy back?

[–] [email protected] 53 points 1 day ago

Also when he wanted Andrew Tate back it took like a day. But then again predators stick together.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago

Yup. I believe you have it.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This is reactionary. They go to meet with the person who was clearly wrongly imprisoned, but where are the calls for impeachment and removal from the Presidency? Oh wait... there are none. Cowards.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

The House should be filing impeachment charges every week and adding to the list of charges each time. There's plenty to add every damn week.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Trump has already been impeached multiple times. One more isn’t going to change your reaction.

So someone with a 1/8 oz weed conviction deserves this treatment because they have a "criminal history"?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How the hell did you make that enormous leap from saying this guy had no criminal record?

[–] [email protected] 44 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Multiple sources across the internet are posting this google earth satellite image of this Prison in El Salvador. 60 minutes reported that 75% of the 200 people Trump sent to this prison have no criminal record. Monday trump told the El Salvadorian president to build more prisons because he’s sending homegrown Americans next

[–] [email protected] 78 points 1 day ago (3 children)

The hell, they can take him out of the concentration camp for a restaurant interview but can't just, yah know, let him out?

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Neither country can even articulate anything he's charged with. They just say he's MS-13 and a terrorist, but the US officer that testified years ago that he was MS-13 has been barred from further court testimony because he's unreliable.

If anything Kilmar should be free in El Salvador, just because Trump wants him in prison doesn't mean he should be. One man isn't running the world. Right?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 22 hours ago

He actually came to the US on asylum from M-13, who were threatening him and his family. El Salvador is the one country on Earth he can't legally be sent to.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Kidnap him back. Then go for another. No one belongs in that shit hole.

[–] [email protected] 37 points 1 day ago

Diplomatic corps in many countries usually can bend the law here and there.

Also a really troll move. Expect /r/conservative to take all these photos to show non-Nazis that they’re being hysterical.

[–] [email protected] 53 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Happy to see that guy is still breathing.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 day ago

For now. But once the media attention fades, who knows?
