Be sure to follow the rule before you head out.

Rule: You must post before you leave.

Other rules

Behavior rules:

Posting rules:

NSFW: NSFW content is permitted but it must be tagged and have content warnings. Anything that doesn't adhere to this will be removed. Content warnings should be added like: [penis], [explicit description of sex]. Non-sexualized breasts of any gender are not considered inappropriate and therefore do not need to be blurred/tagged.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us on our matrix channel or email.

MODERATORS

Heads up, We are mostly moving this community over to Lemmy.world. If you're wondering where most of the funny went, go to [email protected]! If you're wondering why we did this, click here.

==please incorporate the word rule in your post titles==
Here are the things that get you banned:
-saying anything remotely iffy with a lemmygrad or hexbear account
-tankie behaviour
-nazi behaviour
-authoritarian behaviour
-genocide denial
-prejudice of any kind
-anything else that is clearly bad

Things that get your post/comment removed:
-AI generated content
-anything in the banlist
-posts that are so off topic that they don't fit on 196 at all
-moldy memes (old memes, crusty memes, irrelevant memes. The type of things you'd see on your aunt's Facebook page or Elon musk's Twitter account with a laughing emoji as the caption)
-corpoposting

Ban length varies, and is mostly based off of whether or not I think you will change your behavior. I have baned certain people for upwards of 2000 days.

---------EDIT:NSFW RULES---------
NSFW Content is now fully permitted BUT it must be tagged. Any NSFW content that has not been tagged and blurred will be removed. Content warnings should also be added to the title in brackets. Example: [penis] or: [explicit description of sex].
Non-sexualized breasts of any gender are not considered inappropriate and therefore do not need to be blurred/tagged. Yes, even female breasts.

IRL GORE IS NOT PERMITTED UNDER ANY CONDITION.

JAN 2025 UPDATE: One Hundred Ninety Six
Following our mishandling of the lemmy.world migration, a group of dissenting users founded onehundredninteysix, here on lemmy.blahaj.zone. We are not affiliated with this group. Please direct any complaints related to that community to their mod team and/or Ada.

If you have any issues, please reach us at [email protected]. PLEASE do not dm me, as I am not consistently available and tend to step away from the mantle for weeks to months at a time.

maybe consider (temporarily? permanently?) hiding vote-count on posts, to make it seem less dead in here. it doesn't matter how many votes a post has; it just matters whether it's higher or lower than others. for functional reasons, at least.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

I've got vote counts hidden in my UI so things don't feel dead for me, it also helps me resist group think to a varying extent

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I don't think that's a good idea. Also, it isn't dead in here by any measure

i'm seeing nine posts in the last hour, and top rated post of all time at 680 upvotes, both figures being below 1/10th of what appear(ed) on the sub.

that's by reddit measure, which is "a" measure, the only one most of us have for reference. i suggested upvote hiding because the reduced count may be discouraging.

they are not bad in themselves, however: if i were, say, moderating this place, I'd say these numbers are too damn high because scary x3. and yes, they're high as hell for general lemmy standards; from everywhere I've looked, that's obvious.

but the "Reddit perspective" is my reasoning for my suggestion, and i think those reasons will fade away anyway as people acclimate to these new figures, much like someone gets used to big numbers being normal on Japanese restaurant menus.

thanks for running this place; i think you're doing a great job of saving some of this culture

I understand where you're coming from, and really appreciate the input but I think people will find it stranger to have no upvotes vs the community just feelig like it's in a budding phase

Because of the Reddit migration, 196 is coming up in my Lemmy feed a lot, I have no idea what it is (because you haven't made a description).

This could be your chance to gain more community members if you update your description

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Well sort of the point of 196 is that you can post almost anything, the only rule is that you have to post each time before leaving. This rule isn't enforced for obvious reasons, unlike the ban against tankies.

Unfathomably based

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Ah yes, some good news today as well

Happy to see this community is starting off on the right foot

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

How does one get flair here?

Also, because I'm bad at image-memeing, blåhaj sounds like what you do when you've had a few and a cop pulls you over.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

There aren't any flairs yet

how tankies are still surprised that fascist apologia gets them banned in an antifascist community is beyond me

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 years ago (13 children)

Why are they even allowed to federate here

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 years ago (2 children)

The main dev of lemmy is one of them, that's how.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 years ago (2 children)

this instance isn't associated with the devs

I was wondering when someone would start discriminating based on what instance you made your account on...

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago (2 children)

You can use 196 on a lemmygrad account, but because it's by definition a tankie Lemmy site, you're basically on probation.

I mean I don't really see myself as a tankie, I did get temporarily banned from lemmygrad for saying that ACAB means all cops, so there's that I suppose.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

That's hilarious
