A question for the garden-savvy folkโ€ฆ

These have sprouted in a garden bed where there was nothing like this before. I think they might have come in mulch or compost I got from Bunnings. Are they weeds, or should I keep them? Checking because Iโ€™m having enough trouble with pellitory and donโ€™t want more weeds to deal with.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

same

they are the devil to get rid of , just a small fragment will grow into a big plant

but if you like them that's cool

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If they turn out to be elephant ear and you donโ€™t want them, you can dig them up and sell them, Iโ€™ve seen them on marketplace.

Might be:

Elephant's-ear

Giant taro

Cunjevoi

They sort of all look the same (to me anyway). I have one very similar to yours and it gets quite big with enough water.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Thanks! Iโ€™ll investigate further :-)

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This site might help.

https://identify.plantnet.org/

I was struggling to work out what mine was and still confused lol.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Thatโ€™s fantastic, thank you!

E: think Iโ€™ve narrowed it down to an alocasia or colocasia - they all look very similar

bit close to home

Guessing they chose to swim at the front beach which is where that piccy I took of a wave hitting the sea wall on Fri. is.

Was rough.

And that's why we go to the dog beach about 1km away further in the bay when it's like that.

Silly (and lucky) people.

I have packed another box.

I really don't like this whole packing thing. Why have we not yet invented teleportation so I can just beam it all over as is?

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

i am still unpacking ๐Ÿซฅ

Vanilla yogurt cheaterโ€™s pancakes (no eggs in the house!) with cardamom-pistachio sugar and apricots. Not seen in shot - coffee

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I assume those are made with ground cardamon, not full pods?

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Yeah, thereโ€™s ground cardamom in the sugar blend

The fingerless gloves are out. I'm listening to some Burt Bacharach to keep me in a happy, chilled mood while I sit at the computer willing myself to get going on some very simple, brainless stuff for uni.

How was I today years old when I learned that one of my favourite Rรถyksopp tracks ("So Easy"), the first track from their seminal debut album, was a freaking BURT BACHARACH sample ("Blue So Blue"). Anyway. Onwards with the day... if I can get this super basic thing done, I will have chalked up a win!

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Bacharach is less known that he used to be. And still underrated. I like his work too.

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

You can do it!!

PSA: new way for manufacturers to skive on what they sell. Just did a load of washing with a new bottle of laundry liquid. Clear bottle that was full to the top. Undid the top, and the vacuum released and the level of laundry liquid in the bottle dropped by about 2-3 cm. They'd squeezed the bottle when filling it to make it look a lot fuller than it was. Didn't think to measure the amount of liquid but will next time.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

not a scam

the volume of soap remains the same

the bottle bulges a bit when filled

it's sealed under vacuum to stop it from leaking in transit

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Um, I was thinking of tubes of toothpaste. When you change the topography of the outside layer by squeezing, the inside volume goes down. The difference here is that the shape of the bottle springs back which does not happen with toothpaste.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Agree. It's like the air in a packet of chips. Acts as a cushion.

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

Argh. Like opening a box of something and finding it is mostly cardboard packer, or the way Toblerone bits have been double spaced. Aggravation and lies.
