Original question by @[email protected]

Looking for the most privacy respecting baby monitor available. Doesn't have to be overly complicated, just the ability to watch a video feed from an app on my phone. It's a must have from the wife, so trying to find the best option and accepting some losses in privacy is likely necessary.

I used an old school audio only baby monitor in my daughters nursery. I never needed a live video feed. The baby crying was more than enough reason to go check on her. And if the power went out, it didn't need WiFi and had a builtin battery backup. Also the range was quite good, I could use it from a few neighbors houses away.

Actually @[email protected] if you want a quick and dirty option, I just used a windows tablet I had on hand and strapped it to the crib along with a USB webcam along with OBS studio with the RTSP server plugin

If you want night vision, make sure to pickup a webcam with IR

After that you can just open the stream with VLC, and VLC is available on all major platforms

ipwebcam + old phone + vlc is the way to go.
