If only I could use IMAP Iโd be one of them. But I went with Posteo for that very reason.

That's good news
Welp, I thought 500 gigabyte storage meant file storage, it's only for email storage ๐
Can always just email yourself stuff I guess?
25MB file limit, goddamnit.
That's over 20,000 emails with maximum file size.
I was considering to get soverein.nl, as they offer a custom domain with their mailbox for a small extra fee. Anyone have experience with them?
Seems like a simple one stop solution.
Great idea thanks I'm going to register this domain. I'm also in the Netherlands
Hot damn! 3 euro/mo (1 yr prepaid) with up to 10 custom domains?!?
I do believe I'll be signing up later on tonight or tomorrow morning.
I'm an american, and fuck american tech companies right now.
Important one omitted is Posteo.net (Posteo.de). Encrypted and secure. Paid but inexpensive.
Count me in as one! Though I am from US lol
Encrypted email access is more important under fascist dictatorships. Make sure you use a custom domain so you can redirect mail elsewhere if need be. If the US continues down the path to fascism and war, they'll likely block access to encrypted foreign services first.
I heard that Suisse is not safe for privacy anymore, is that the truth?
No
Are there any good guides for switching from gmail to Tuta/Proton/Start/etc?
I am also interested, but my ancient gmail account annoyingly still gets lots of important stuff and I would be interested how easy or complicated is to redirect emails or exporting contacts for example.
edit: thanks for the suggestion! I will definetly switch now. Just need to decide between Proton and Tuta :D
set up filters in gmail with redirection to your tuta account; this way you can slowly forward important things while keeping less important stuff in gmail and clean up your inbox.
then just add new filters as needed.
This. Actually Proton tells you to do this if you want to get extra storage space on free account.
Proton has a function where you can automatically redirect everything from a chosen Gmail address to your Proton address. After that you can slowly change all accounts to your new Proton address.
+1 on the do it slowly, I've also taken it as an opportunity to sort the emails coming in; unsubscribe what I no longer wish to receive and changing my adress on the (automated) emails i do want to get. Changing login credentials has been a bit of a hassle but I'm using a password managet which does make it a lot easier to 'remember' logins. The process is easier than I expected, but maybe because it's not taking much time each week. Almost all personal mail still goes to my old address, so still have to cross that bridge though.
Instead of redirecting, just slowly switch over. Change account emails of services as they arrive to your inbox one at a time. Do some deep dives into email history from time to time to see if there is anything super rare that you'd truly miss. Don't close the account for at least a year (but really, just don't ever close the account).
Hey! I'm one of those!
Me too, it's been great so far. Got my custom domains all set up easy.
Good job! I'm wondering what the statistics are from StartMail their sale, they also having a discount right now. Good to see that incredible increase of 148%!
They also currently have a 62% deal of their highest tier for the next 10 days. Rather good deal!
LOVE seeing it! That's amazing and well earned!
Theyโre much better than Proton. Like Blaze they do not want to get political.
Not wanting to get political is a ๐ฉ
Most western countries have a conservative party pushing against all things FOSS, anti-monopoly, privacy protection, data control, beneficial regulations, etc.
Proton caught flak because one of their board members vocally supported "the bad guys" who stand against everything proton claimed to defend and support.
they do not want to get political
oh but they do, they advocate for open source and privacy rights.
and climate rights (they even have an entire section about it on their homepage)
Their homepage?
