There are two fairly active communities with almost identical topics:

The community on ml is named "crows" but its scope includes "crows, ravens, and other corvids".

Taking into account the community names, overlapping topics, instance size, and other issues with ml, might we consider consolidating towards sopuli.xyz?

Do a web search for "jackdaw is a crow". 😉

Paging [email protected] moderator @[email protected]. I think I messaged you a few days ago, but I'm not sure if it federated.

Would you be open to consolidating this community with [email protected]?

Also paging recent contributors @[email protected], @[email protected], @[email protected], and @[email protected] for their thoughts.

@[email protected]

Multiple people have now pinged you in this thread. We would be interested in hearing your perspective on this.

I am neutral and will post wherever is most active

Thanks for your input!

I would just like to note that using the algorithm of "posting wherever is most active" will usually result in consolidating to the largest instance, which is not ideal for the health of the fediverse as a whole.

While true, nobody really wants to post to a dead community either, you know? Sort of a self-perpetuating problem.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

True, though sometimes all it takes to grow a community is one or two users posting consistently. And in this case, both communities have a similar level of activity.

Paging [email protected] moderator @[email protected].

How would you feel about a potential influx of posters and commenters? Would you be open to adding Mechanismatic to the mod team?

Also paging recent contributor @[email protected] for their thoughts.
