The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

I'm wondering if I should just delete lemmy to stay under the radar. πŸ€” (I'm a US Citizen currently residing in the US, and moving out of the country is not really an option)

I feel so conflicted on this. On one hand, this is kinda like giving in to authoritarianism, but on the other hand, dissenting is kinda dangerous. πŸ˜“

Hi, this is really important and has a real and practical solution: ANONYMITY / OPSEC!

for Lemmy this means registering an account over tor, with email made over Tor (like onionmail.org) and only ever use it over tor. Note that some instances like Lemmy.world won't allow this. Dbzer0 or lem.ee are good bets

It requires learning how this stuff works but it is so worth it. Do not let them intimidate you into censoring yourself, learn to use technology to your benefit so you don't have to second guess yourself or be afraid to resist.

I recommend using Tor Browser if you want a quick and easy solution or Whonix if you're technically inclined/willing to learn/want a full anonymous OS instead of just a browser

I'm considering making a detailed guide for Lemmy resistors but these are great resources to get you started

https://anonymousplanet.org/guide/

http://blog.nowherejezfoltodf4jiyl6r56jnzintap5vyjlia7fkirfsnfizflqd.onion/opsec/index.html

^ can only be accessed over tor

If anyone needs help please don't hesitate to reach out to me

why don't you take a look at my comment history to find out how I feel about it.

this is my 231st comment. I run a script to scrub anything usually older than 24 hours.

Right now I think its basically zero chance, BUT we are absolutely hurtling face-first into that exact reality.

It's our extremely unfortunate job right now to fight these fascist Cunts and do our best to prevent this reality from coming to be. I get that that is downright terrifying, but if we give in to that fear and bury our heads in the sand, doesn't kinda mean they win?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

no. well, not accurately.

which doesn't mean you're safe. it means compliance will not protect you-you could do everything right, and get nabbed anyway. shit's gonna get messy..

the more imaginable scenario is that they always go for the edgiest fuckers, at a certain pace. that's within their bounds to easily identify without wasting resources they need to fight other state level actors on it, and as long as you're just a little less than the edgiest fuckers currently posting (oops) you're probably fine. it will just be a slow ratcheting hand around your neck, that strangles you by millimeters, but you can just think of it as a really really high stakes version of reddit, if you need a familiar frame of reference.

don't worry though; they'll also be messy about this, and get a TON of the wrong people.

It's completely unrealistic in the short term, more so in the long term. This would require arresting millions of people - there simply isn't enough jail space. They would have to execute people on sight, and that's also not realistic because low level soldiers would refuse (there's a reason the nazis needed to build a system instead of just executing jews on sight). Obviously if this were attempted it would result in extremely violent resistence which would destroy any economic, political, or other incentives for such an action.

Instead we can see what happened in Russia for a more realistic example - there was a slow elimination of dissent. Even today there are some Russians who vocally oppose Putin and don't get arrested so long as they stay small enough. And that's in a place where the society never had a culture of freedom to begin with, so here it will probably be much harder and obviously MAGA is much dumber than the Russians too. But regardless that's why it's very important to be vocal now and oppose any silencing of dissent, like the removal of pro-Palestine activists here on green cards or even the pardoning of pro-Trump people, as this combined with harsh punishments for others is effectively silencing of speech. It may not affect you now, but if they keep at it for a decade or two it'll get to you eventually.

Give it 4 years when we have martial law and elections are suspended because we're in "wartime" or some kinda shit and the opposite democratic leader is arrested

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

"We have always been at war with ~~Eastasia~~ Democrats."

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

very unlikely.

If they do it'll end up being like less than 5% to make an example out of them.

if that does happen start using and supporting services like i2p and monero.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

and use them to organize activities that involves torches and pitchforks.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago

that's one of the things you can do via those, though you don't really need darknet software to organize them, i suppose it wouldn't be bad for insurance.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Same reason the people on 9/11 stayed in their seats - they thought they’d be fine if they waited it out.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

to be fair, up until that point, hijacking usually just meant a detour. there was good reason for them to think that.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Except for the one plane where they just crashed into the ground

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Extremely unlikely and possibly physically impossible

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Many people commenting of the difficulties in prosecuting people for anti Trump settlements. More likely they will "release" this information for the wider public(maga linch mob)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

I hope my fellow Philadelphians who voted Harris with 50+% margin will protect me from the mobs πŸ˜–

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

AI is a big help here. Including at current tech level. But why bother the expense or judicially-complaining process of arresting them, if you can arrange their next Amazon electronics order to explode?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The worst they can do is kill you. Your gonna die eventually anyway, might as well do it for a good cause.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Oh, torture is worse.

Death is a relief in comparison.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

Take as many out before they do

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

This is why I use a vpn. But he'd have to prosecute half the people or scare half the people. I hope we'll fight back if that ever happens

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 week ago

All? Unlikely. But some? A lot harder to say. You're asking for an opinion-based prediction at this point. I think they'll probably eventually try to get the most outspoken critics, but I also think that's a good time to not go silent. You get organized.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think it's not feasible to search for anti -trump content and then track down the person, but is much more likely that once they have you they will check your phone to see if you are a dissenter. So any interaction with federal or local authorities will be risky from now on. I just saw a headline of a French scientist being denied entry after immigration searched her phone and found anti Trump messages. If anyone has advice on how to quickly wipe or lockdown a phone, PC, etc. please share. OpSec

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

GrqpheneOS has a second pin on your lock screen which, when keyed in, immediately makes the storage contents permanently inaccessible, deletes all Esims, and powers the device off. Graphene will remain installed.

There are also "panic button" apps out there that do similar stuff.

Then there's the good ole, put it in the microwave, or taking a nail-gun to it

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Not sure if wiping it right before the gestapo find you is a good idea tho. They see a wiped phone and would just assume the worst about the contents.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Thank you. Instant lock and wipe before handing it over to your friendly neighborhood gestapo holding you gun point is just what we need.

Listen at some point its time to realize you dont give a fuck about their threats, accept death as a possibility, and keep to your principles.

Like that man who stood in front of the tank during Tiananmen Square protests of 1989.

Im pretty sure were headed into such an event locally.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

Like that man who stood in front of the tank during Tiananmen Square protests of 1989.

The guy didn't die immediately. If you watch the full video, he was taken away by plainclothe police. Probabaly got disappeared and tortured. πŸ˜–

Torture is the most scary part of it.

There is so much content going online, and so much traffic, plus heightened security measures, that make it very hard to identify dissidents on a large scale, at least with the tech we have, without using searches and seizure of one’s devices or other methods unrelated to the Internet itself.

In other words, very hard to impossible.
