Honestly anybody involved in the US university system saw it coming. Academia has been run by a bunch of spineless cowards who will always look the other way if it gets them grant funding, at least for the decade I've spent in and around it. The Colombia thing is bad because it shows future potential students how spineless US universities are.

For all its often noted defects and problems, the American university—and mine, Columbia, in particular—is still one of the few remaining places in the United States where reflection and study can take place in an almost-utopian fashion.
