In other news: water still wet.

The other seasons were okay, actually they were good compared to most other shows and I love how each season is its own unique story unrelated to other seasons. I think order could go, season 1, season 4 and then 2 and 3.

Season 1 is on another level though, just an incredible watch.

I'd put 3 above 4 tbh.

It should probably still have ended after the first one. Or at least been called something different.

season 4 was objectively terrible

It is entirely possible I am remembering it more fondly than it deserves but I don't remember thinking it was garbage at the time. There's enough reviews of everything everywhere, so I'm not attempting to give one.

Season 1 is something I enjoyed a lot though.

i had super high hopes for it with Jodie Foster but night country just wasn't it

I watched True Detective about ~10 years after it was released.

Watched Season 1 first. Great experience. I generally prefer movies (most TV shows just feel off), but this is something you can recommend.

Skipped Season 2/3 because of bad reviews. Watched Season 4 because I like "small communities in the far north" settings. S04 was solid, although I felt the core hook was never defined. Is this a more mystical movie? Cultural commentary? It was great to see Jody Foster (the first movie with her that I watched was The Silence of the Lambs as a kid when I didn't really understand the movie), but something didn't connect.

Decided to watch Season 2. While in many ways it was very flawed, I found it far more rewarding than Season 1 or Season 4.

It had a gritty and realistic vibe. Flawed characters trying to do their best. A realistic ending. Social commentary without being overbearing.

In my opinion, Season 2 of True Detective is by far the best season. And I say this as someone who has a massive list of things that I felt were annoying and unrealistic about Season 2 (list is bigger than for Season 1 or Season 4). But Season 2 felt real and the overall narrative arc felt like something any of us could experience (versus Season 1/4 that were more of a fairy tale for adults).

also the OST by Lera Lynn is very good, still comes to me some days fun fact, in the series it was actually her playing at the bar :)

Did you watch Bosch too? I felt like S1 was really great and gave me some True Detective Vibes

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

Never heard of Bosch. Might need to check it out. Cheers!

While the 1st is probably my favorite, I found the 2nd one extremely good as well! It was just very different from the first

Check out Mare of Easttown as well

I still regularly rewatch S1 because it's just sooo good

Time is a flat circle after all

Aren't all circles flat, by definition? Or is that the joke...

It's a quote from the show.

(potential spoilers in the linked clips)

His character says it after hearing it from another character. It comes from Nietzche.

Yeah, I know it's from the show, I'm just not sure if people quote it sarcastically or if people actually think it's deep or something.

No praise like self praise i suppose!
