Needed to use that momentum to make Lemmy grow
Thx! I'm still learning the ropes here but so far so good.
Welcome! Don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks, I love it so far. Been feeling a little guilty for staying on Reddit after the API changes but felt too daunting to learn how to fediverse. Glad I finally pushed myself to do it. (Sync helped a lot too since I had it for Reddit before and was/is awesome!)
Welcome ! I don't know Sync but people seems to like it for Lemmy and there is lot of other choice to try for.
99.9% of the time Iโm just lurking on Reddit, but here Iโm actually getting interested in commenting again. Feels โsaferโ than the other place.
Welcome ! Come on [email protected] you'll find that the animator is very friendly and open to chat back.
Welcome!
This is my third or fourth alt on Lemmy since joining. I love that I can stick to one account or change instances if I feel like it. Itโs not too difficult to get used to! Iโm getting a desktop app next.
I like that thereโs an application process for each instance. That gives you a good idea of how the instance is managed and what to expect.
I love that I can get German news and interact with Germans and German language speakers. Or, in other words, I love that itโs not default centralized American.
Itโs really cool seeing their instances next to everyoneโs handle. Thereโs so much here! I feel a lot safer. I love that everyone is human.
I see @[email protected] everywhere. I have been here a day and I think I have upvoted them 15 times already. Haha
You seems to like every right thing! Welcome abord!
Well, welcome, that's a very nice comment!
It's kind of empty and I thought about stopping my boycott of Reddit because I think it hurts the US more to use Reddit as a place to talk because unfortunately that's where everybody is. Still couldn't get myself to do it though, but I'm struggling to find content here on Lemmy and I suspect maybe I don't know how to use it
Same here but I also feel like the emptiness helps with my screentime. Easier to check new topics and the continue with life :D i get very stuck on reddit with endless doomscrolling.
Would love to get a good replacement for r/hardware. Otherwise itโs really nice!
good replacement for r/hardware.
[email protected] has some promise, light on conversation, but we could fix that by going there and talking :)
[email protected] has a lot more people in it, but the ML servers are hit or miss on community.
Hey thanks! Are you sure the first one is working? Cant seem to find it ๐
It's pretty fun, it does stuff better than Reddit so I'm focusing on that. Personally I'm enjoying that you can scroll through so many parts when searching for a topic
Welcome! I'l glad you like it.
you can scroll through so many parts
Do you mean the instances or the feeds?
I'm missing some of my topics. Is noone interested in dating, dating advice, self improvement, psychology and this stuff?
Or am I missing something?
People are nice here. I like that. ๐๐
Idk but I just searched up this sub for you
Nice one! Maybe [email protected] as well
I see where my mistake was. I searched in "all" not in "communities" only. Thanks a lot ๐ฅฐ
Not even sure if I saw any posts on buyfromEU. I just saw a picture somewhere with alternatives to various platforms, and it had Lemmy. I had been looking for an alternative to Reddit anyway, so thought I'd give it a shot. My first day here, I got banned from like three Reddit subs and got multiple content takedowns and warnings for up voting Luigi adjacent comments/posts. At that point I was done. Deleted my account yesterday.
I just scroll through the main All feed. Seems like a cool place so far. I'm using the Photon UI because I like how it looks on PC.
Welcome!
Thanks!
I still need to get used to the federated architecture but it's growing on me. I hope we can engage as much as possible so it's more attractive to be active here.
I'm as confused as the next guy, but I'm hanging in there! I'm not sure if the decentralized nature means I'm missing communities because I'm looking in the wrong place, or if there's just fewer stuff around.
I feel the same, but it helps to not just browse "subscribed" but to also check out "local" and especially "all"
You can also take a few minutes and check out the "communities" overview and join those you recognise by name or browse a few of them to decide if you want to join them.
It does not matter on which instance most of the time. Also, I am subscribed to similar communities on different instances, cause why not. Worst case scenario: I get duplicate news.
Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I think that you will see more stuff in All if more people from your instance are subscribed to more communities from other instances.
Go up to Communities
Change Local to All
Search there.
if you're on an even slightly busy instance, you'll probably see most of what exists.
if someone is on a smaller instance, they can go to https://lemmy.world/communities, select ALL and see what exists
For the most part, just going to all on any server with a couple hundred users should be enough to see most of the communities.
lemm.ee has most of the communities federated.
Do you mean instances can federate with communities and not just other instances?
When you follow a remote community, it doesn't send all of that servers posts. Only posts from that comm. That way, if I'm hosting a small server and subscribe to [email protected], for example, it won't drown my server with the rest of lemmy.worlds posts.
Does that mean what I see in All is a combination of instances my instances is federated with + the comms that users from my instance are subscribed to? So if my instance is federated with another instance and no one from my instance is subbed to any of the comms from that other instance then no one from my instance will see posts from that instance in All?
Sorry for word salad.
All is all the communties on your instance, and remote instances people on your instance subscribe to.
Thanks for confirming this.
Doing good here.
Thx for these spaces, Lemmy is really enjoyable and Reddit is flushing down so fast!
