Bonus points if it has a good story. Also, I'm not going to play DRM-controlled games

TimeSplitters 2 and 3 were pretty great

I think my favorite couch coop game was Resistance on playstation 3. Some friends had it and we spent an entire week blasting through the game. It had a lot of potential for fun, like when I meleed the enemy in the face, then my friend with a sniper rifle slowed time, aimed between my character's arms for the recoiling head of the enemy and got the headshot.

Borderlands series (Tiny Tina's Wonderlands as well), Gunfire Reborn, Vermintide 2, Helldivers 2, Remnant: From the Ashes, Valheim (not fps but you can use mods for first person view) and coop is amazing in Valheim, Nioh 2. Also could do Gears series (3rd is best, 4th and 5th are ok but still decent fun with friends).

I've been into co-op games lately with my friends.

Edit: steam spring sales is coming soon™. Can't wait to grab a few of those.

Just got Robocop and Wolfenstein New Order on a decent sale on GOG, loving Wolfenstein so far..

Love Left 4 Dead 2, timeless classic.

Bro, ODST is like the best one!

[–] bfg9k@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Indeed, how could I forget quite possibly the best game Bungie ever put out

[–] rustyricotta@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 week ago

I've had a lot of fun with Roboquest.

Sanctum 1 & 2 are fun fps mixed with tower defence.

Deep Rock Galactic is fantastic, like others have mentioned.

Borderlands Borderlands 2

  • all the DLC's.

Then if you're still interested, Borderlands Pre-sequel

And if you find yourself really into the series, Borderlands 3

Ghost Recon Wildlands is one of the best. Not sure about the DRM situation.

[–] ltxrtquq@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 week ago

Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: Denuvo Anti-tamper 5 different PC within a day machine activation limit

Requires 3rd-Party Account: Ubisoft Account (Supports Linking to Steam Account) Requires agreement to a 3rd-party EULA

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands EULA

From the steam page

Does portal 2 coop count? Technically it's a FPS

[–] SpaghettiYeti@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Suggestions for local couch coop anyone?

For 2 players? Kingdom: Two Crowns is surprisingly fun

Call of Duty 3, World at War, Black Ops 1, Modern Warfare 3, and Black Ops 3 all have local split screen Co-op as an option

[–] nutbutter@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 1 week ago

Left 4 Dead 2 has a split-screen mod.

A Way Out is an interesting one. Very story driven with some FPS stuff near the end.

What do you mean by DRM here? Are you saying you need to be able to pirate it?

[–] lena@gregtech.eu 9 points 1 week ago

No, lol. I really dislike this mentality people have that wanting no DRM = "Pirate! Burn her at the stakes!". DRM, first of all, makes games [defective by design] (https://www.defectivebydesign.org/). It's an anti-feature which literally only harms those who pay, because pirates will always find a way around it. Additionally, DRM causes some more-than-noticeable performance issues. I can't support a publisher who makes games with this thing they implement just to fuck us over some more.

When I was a kid I had a blast playing Time Splitters: Future Perfect on my friend’s PS2. Such a fun game, with a great co-op story mode.

[–] RunjamboJenkin@infosec.pub 2 points 1 week ago

It’s got to be one of the best co-op games ever made IMO. Also a ton of fun to be had with the arcade modes.

Seconding Dying Light 1 and Borderlands 2. Excellent games! If you're open to 3rd person, Helldivers 2 and The Division 2. No idea about DRM, though.

[–] lath@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

Helldivers and Division are definitely DRM.

[–] tatann@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago
