Measures proposed in the review, commissioned by the previous government and led by Conservative peer Baroness Gabby Bertin, are understood to include making it illegal to possess or publish pornography showing women being choked during sex.

After her appointment by Rishi Sunak's government, Baroness Bertin made it clear she would not be approaching the topic from a prudish or disapproving position.

She will make 32 recommendations on what should be done about the "high-harm sector" of legal online pornography.

The review, due to be published later, is expected to argue that porn videos considered too harmful for any certificate in the offline world should be banned online.

Non-fatal strangulation is already an offence if someone does not consent but its depiction online is not illegal.

The review suggests pornography websites have normalised such behaviour in the real world, with violent and degrading material rife on mainstream platforms amid a "total absence of government scrutiny".

It's not unreasonable in theory but the certification process is often inconsistent and who is going to police this? I just can't see it working.

I really dislike how conservatives have attempted to redefine the meaning of misogyny to literally mean the opposite of what it is. Attempting to take autonomy from women is anti-feminist. This is also clearly intended to target wlw porn.

What I'm hearing here is the post-Baroness-Bertin-plan way to indulge an breath control fetish is for many people to find and choke an actual person who consents, because having many people watch one consenting person be choked is more harmful.

I guess that's...one way to go about things.

On one hand, I'm overjoyed to hear that there'll be some pushback against unethical porn. On the other hand, not sure I trust this particular individual to be the arbiter.

The problem is who will define, control and enforce what is ethical or not.

Yeah the latter half of my comment expresses that.

Is this going to be another thing like the porn law Theresa May pushed for? The one that made face-sitting, fingering with more than two fingers, "inflicting pain" (this was worded so vaguely that it could include things as mundane as spanking), bondage, and female ejaculation illegal?

Yeah, so the only good that will come of it are the protest photos and videos.

Yeah seems like it. Gotta end net neutrality so the government can make sure we're not watching choke porn I guess.

Because if there's one thing you'd expect from a Tory peer it's a healthy attitude to fetish porn.

Absolutely. There’ll be no stopping her once she gets the bit between her teeth.

Oh you just know Baroness Bertin is a horsie girl
