Some people change their socks every single day, to me that's a little to much. I'm more of a 2-3days kinda guy. Is changing socks each day absolutely necessary?

Edit: Obviously something is wrong with me, I'll take some time to rethink my life decisions and buy more socks! πŸ˜… Edit2: I mostly wear wool socks, I hope that justifies this a bit..

Change your socks!!!

Unless you're laying around doing virtually nothing change your socks daily!

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

What if I told you that for 10 dollars a week you could wear brand new socks every day!

7 pairs, 7 days. Costco Caterpillar socks.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Hours, max 12

And yes I take two showers a day. Got to keep all the bits clean.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

Two showers a day realy isn't good for your skin. Even once a day isn't optimal, but I guess you have to compromise somewhere.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

Yeah this time is measured in hours not days.

And if I take my socks off for some reason, like getting home from work, they’re done, I’ll grab a fresh pair if I were to need them again that day.

buy socks changed every day

That sounds expensive

Average athlete’s foot enjoyer.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

This prompted me to buy socks cos apparently I'm an animal.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

you are supposed to change them????

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Once they get so crusty they can stand on their own. That's about 8 hours in shoes, or a week next to the bed.

This guy doesn't fuck.

Two. They're Darn Tough wool socks, and the packaging recommends even more days between washes for longevity.

Before these I had only worn cotton socks, mostly Nike, and those stink like hell and did need to be washed daily. But these wool ones really don't, even in the summer.

I also alternate pairs, so they're not two days in a row. e.g. A B A B C D C D etc.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

This is the way.

Edit: okay to add more substance agreeing with you, Darn Tough socks, and in general merino wool socks, is a life changer. I didn't believe it initially because I live in a tropical country, but dangit merino wool socks is magical. It still feels cool when I'm stationary. Sure it gets a bit warm when I'm walking about, but I still don't get that damp feeling with typical cotton socks. Feetill dry the end of the day and sock still doesn't smell.

Around a week usually. Wool socks go much longer before they stink. All this washing and obsessive attention to hygiene is enabled by freely available access to energy and resources that many people don't have. Can you imagine these first world people walking down to the local river with a bag of washing every day? No, they too busy posting on insta for such humdrum peasant activities.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

Now I’m imagining slo-mo insta-mums life styling their river washing board.

β€œYeah, so I got this new board, extra galvanised and the wooden frame is made from recovered wood; links below if you want to buy one and support the channel!”

Daily unless I don't have any clean in which case...until I do a load of laundry.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

I wear merino wool socks. They don't stink but I change them each day, generally speaking. Wear in day, take off to shower and sleep, new pair in mornings. I bought 10 pair, wash clothes weekly and wanted enough to not worry. But if you hand wash them you can manage it with fewer pairs.

Loose fitted merino stuff doesn't need to be washed often, and sweaters I can wash once or twice a year since they are outerwear but socks are like underwear, sit tight on your skin and better to keep them clean.

At the most about 16-18 hours.

Please consider finding a alternative to using wool. The wool industry is so cruel.

It depends on how much you sweat, the stuff in your sweat, how much skin you shed, and your own microbiome. Everyone is different. I change socks every 10-12 hours. My friend changes her socks -and- shoes at lunch. If she doesn't, the smell will literally chase everyone out of the room when she takes off her shoes at the end of the day.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

Maybe she's using shoes with a synthethic upper? She could try 100β„… cotton canvas

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (2 children)

24 hrs since I put them on for sleep and keep them on for the next day

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Why do you sleep with socks? That sounds very uncomfortable.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

On the contrary, if they're not too tight, they are a bit comfy for me. I heard Einstein was even proud of never wearing socks, but I think you people just have different foot vibes, I'm rather neutral about wearing them.

Even more importantly, it's winter, it's really fucking cold, and a blanket or two just isn't enough, at least not when I get out of bed early the next day. Directly covering extra skin helps.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

I think socks are comfortable but I could never sleep with them.

I do agree that getting out of bed is not very nice in winter. The floors can be uncomfortably cold and it's just an unpleasant experience.

Our outside temperatures are so weird this winter. It varies from like 10 to -20 in just two weeks for so.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

The temperatures are rather consistent here in Poland actually, I only felt it was mildly warmer for a day or so, but besides that I've been wearing the same clothes and feeling fine. Autumn was way worse.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

An inconsistent winter is the worst.

It's just terrible. One day you have a lot of snow, and then it gets water so it's all slush, and then it gets colder so it turns to extremely slippery ice.

One place in the country went from -43,6 (coldest since 1887) to 0,9 in under a week. Utterly insane.

I wish the weather could just decide on snow or not snow, either is perfectly fine, but not both.

Alright, so, I change my socks daily but I wear them 3 or 4 times before I wash them, unless it's a) abnormally humid and hot, b) I've done an intense workout or c) they got damp/wet somehow.

I dunno. I don't stink easily and my feet and skin are on the dryer side. My feet don't have an odour for a few days if I don't wash them ( like if I'm camping), so it's not a big deal.

Usually, I keep a pair of socks stuffed into a pair of shoes for a few cycles of wear, then toss them in the laundry basket. Right now all my shoes that I wear socks with that a pair stuffed inside.

4-5 in Winter and 1-2 days in summer
