The Niagara Movement was a civil rights group organized by W.E.B. Du Bois and William Monroe Trotter in 1905. After being denied admittance to hotels in Buffalo, New York, the group of twenty-nine business owners, teachers, and clergy who comprised the initial meeting gathered at Niagara Falls, Ontario (Canada) from which the group’s name derives.

The principles behind the Niagara Movement were largely in opposition to Booker T. Washington’s philosophy of Accommodationism. Trotter, editor of the Boston Guardian, had publicly reprimanded Washington at a Boston, Massachusetts meeting in 1903. In The Souls of Black Folk (1903), Du Bois had also condemned Washington for his lowered expectations for African Americans. The Niagara Movement drafted a “Declaration of Principles,” part of which stated: “We refuse to allow the impression to remain that the Negro-American assents to inferiority, is submissive under oppression and apologetic before insults.”

The Niagara Movement attempted to bring about legal change, addressing the issues of crime, economics, religion, health, and education. The movement stood apart from other black organizations at the time because of its powerful, unequivocal demand for equal rights. The Niagara Movement forcefully demanded equal economic and educational opportunity as well as the vote for black men and women. Members of the Niagara Movement sent a powerful message to the entire country through their condemnation of racial discrimination and their call for an end to segregation.

While the movement had grown to include to 170 members in 34 states by 1906, it also encountered difficulties. W.E.B. Du Bois supported the inclusion of women in the Niagara Movement, William Monroe Trotter did not. Trotter left the movement in 1908 to start his own group, the Negro-American Political League.

The Niagara Movement met annually until 1908. In that year a major race riot broke out in Springfield, Illinois. Eight blacks were killed and over 2,000 African Americans fled the city. Symbolically important because it was the first northern race riot in four decades and because it was in the hometown of Abraham Lincoln, black and white activists, including members of the Niagara Movement, felt a new more powerful, interracial organization was now needed to combat racism. Out of this concern, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was formed. The Niagara Movement was considered the precursor to the NAACP and many of its members, such as W.E.B. Du Bois, were among the new organization’s founders.

I swear our reality is built around providing Adam Curtis with all of the visual metaphors he needs.

I wonder if everyone punches and slaps each other in Gundam because everyone is traumatized due to half the human race dying.

Thinking back to when I told my mom she was more of a gamer than me because of how often she played candy crush and other little puzzle games on her phone and she got MAD at me.

Asking qwen3:8b about spelunky 2

What is spelunky 2

Spelunky 2 is a roguelike platformer game developed by Giant Sparrow, the same studio behind the popular game Spelunky (the original). It was released in 2012 for PC, Mac, and Linux, and later ported to other platforms like PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. ... [output cut]

Looking at wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spelunky_2)

Spelunky 2 is a 2020 platform video game developed by Mossmouth and BlitWorks and published by Mossmouth. It is the sequel to Spelunky (2008) and was released for PlayStation 4 and Windows in September 2020, for Nintendo Switch in August 2021, for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S in January 2022, and for PlayStation 5 in March 2025. The game received critical acclaim upon release.

sentient-ai i-cant

Anyway spelunky 2 is very hard that I quit since it was getting repetitive after a while (the game is really short and doesn't encourage experimentation imo).

final death to the DEA post for the month fuckin-deserve dean-neutral but the 50 dollar dystopian med finder service did find my lock-in pills super fast. idk if their efficacy varies region to region and they're of course a monstrous business model that shouldn't exist, but next time there's a shortage i'll probably swallow my pride and shell out the $$ again, it's not nothing to me but i can afford it, worth it to save all that awful stress i felt. shit sucks though, we really should not have to resort to this, medicating adhd is a very fun intersection of the evils of private healthcare and the evils of the war on drugs.

Does anyone even like work do's? Does anyone really actually enjoy mandatory talking and eating and drinking with people?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 hours ago

Mandatory? No. But there are people at work I like having lunch with, just not my direct coworkers lol.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 8 hours ago

Rant: I can't eat any of the food because I'm vegan and apparently no one has any conception of what that means. I am the only one wearing a mask indoors. We are expected to work our entire shift, clock out, then go to another location off the clock. The last part of my 10-12 hour shifts involves washing dishes, so I'm soaked and overheated. It is a Friday, I want to go home. If I'm not aggressively cheerful I hear about it. They raffle off some work branded garbage I don't want. I win a giant rocking camping chair, the box it comes in is like my size. I live in a one bedroom apartment and have no use for it or even place to store it. I have to say thank you convincingly enough to be believed, and no one offers to help me get it into my car while it's raining outside

it's fucked up that i like being high but the way tolerance works I basically can't even get high high (*unless I make my own extremely potent tinctures or edibles)

if nerds were so smart how come nobody's figured out a way to stop you from building tolerance to fun shit

Rotate drugs. Like one week you're into booze, one week you're a weed guy, then you switch over to meth for a week, then coke, then benzos, then back to booze.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 hours ago

That never happens, you just end up doing everything at once instead until you have to sober up again because you wasted all your spending money

James Carter Cathcart, a voice actor who portrayed some of the most memorable characters in the “Pokémon” franchise and became a familiar presence in several other popular animated series, died on Tuesday in the Bronx. He was 71. His wife, Martha Jacobi, said in a social media post that he died in a hospital.

Voice actress Erica Schroeder reported on Thursday that fellow voice actor and script adaptor James Carter Cathcart has died. Cathcart's wife Martha Jacobi had announced in January 2023 that he had been diagnosed with an advanced form of throat cancer. Cathcart voiced several characters in the Pokémon anime such as Professor Oak, his grandson Gary, and Team Rocket's James and Meowth. Cathart had been involved in the franchise since its first episode. He had also worked as a script adaptor for many TV series and films in the franchise.

Aside from Pokémon, Cathcart (who also goes by the names Jimmy Zoppi, Billy Beach, and Carter Cathcart) also voiced the character of Miki Kaoru in Revolutionary Girl Utena, Cyniclons Tarb in Tokyo Mew Mew, Dilgear and others in The Slayers, Weevil Underwood in the 2000 Yu Gi Oh! anime, Kumi's Borg in Alien Nine, Sir Gallant in Kirby: Right Back At Ya!, and Butchie in One Piece.

Eating salad placebos me into thinking im healthy. Like...I've been vegan for a long ass time now, there isn't really much going on in a salad that isn't in most of what im already eating but a bowl of straight up veggies hits different when theyre cold and without rice
