But at conception aren’t all fetuses female? Isn’t it a few weeks in or more that some become male? That’s at least partly why females have clitorises and males have nipples…

Fetuses don't exist yet at conception. We're all officially enbies now.

Oh yeah you’re right

But later produces the small cell.

Why didn't they say egg and sperm lol

"On" means a circuit belonging, at time of observation, to the larger number.

"Off" means a circuit belonging, at time of observations, to the nothing number.

These people are on a hilariously dumb level of evil. They can't be for real with this.

I would think "if you have a Y chromosome, you're male" would be a better definition to fit what they're trying to do

[–] [email protected] 10 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Chromosomes are almost never tested at birth, and so 99% of people walking around don’t actually know what chromosomes they have. Enforcing any law based on chromosomes for purposes like this would be nearly impossible.

Nobody's checking the size of sex gametes that embryos are producing at conception, either. Didn't stop them from saying that.

What, are they going to start having people provide sperm or eggs at the DMV so that they can use a set of tiny calipers to figure out how to fill out the gender on your license?

the thing is that there is no good hard definition of sexes, the best you can do is just go "they fill the general role of male" but guess what! that includes trans people :))

There's like a not insignificant 1% of people who are intersex where looking at chromosomes can get tricky.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 19 hours ago

Surely there are also people who can produce both/neither reproductive cells. Definitely neither, at least.

Yea it's not perfect, but it's somewhat functional. Compared to what they decided to go with.

You can be XY and present as female. There's a handy little chart in this article to give you an overview of some of the more common things that happen between being an XX woman and being an XY man.

As if the right would care.

Maybe I'm blazed off my rocker, but isn't that an approximate definition you'd get from a biology prof. if they're in a hurry? I swear I heard something like that in one genetics class many moons ago. (I know the actual quote is probably wrong, but the rest is meh ok yeah sure.)

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 day ago

The problem with this definition is that sex differentiation is determined by many genes, and the genetic makeup at conception is not always indicative of what primary and secondary sexual characteristics will develop. This is purely with regards to biological sex, and we're not even talking about a person's gender here.

[–] [email protected] 46 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Embryos can't produce gametes. Everyone is agender now.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

wouldnt it be intersex since it's talking about sex and not gender?

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 day ago

I guess the nicest thing I could say about this is that I'm glad that if they're going to be evil, at least they're bad at it.
