On some level this person clearly understands trans women are a marginalized minority, because in what other situations do people go into a political battle with enough entitlement to believe the other party will just agree you're right and go home when you're bored with the argument?

They have no conception of how intolerable conditions actually are for the people they're arguing with. This doesn't absolve them - the ignorance is willful.
