Looks like Bazza is installing on the old work laptop now. Bitlocker was getting in the way so I used command prompt to reformat the drive.
I had to use Windows to destroy the Windows.
Oh how poetic
It's going to take a bit more work, but at least I have a massive partition of spyware out of the way for the moment
If it wasn't for the audio software I'd have gotten rid of windows ages ago.
Sadly the majority of DAW and plugins don't run on Linux or id have to run them in an emulator.
Yeah, none of the major ones are on Linux. The simpler plugins should just work but anything that breaks your workflow too much will be a deal breaker.
I use waveform and it has a Linux version. Ardour is another DAW that's been getting popular on Linux. It might be worth checking out
I've heard of ardour before. Will suss it out.
Can x64 apps be emulated on Linux without much CPU and ram overhead?
Yeah, WINE has come a long way since Steam uses it for the Steamdeck. It's quite common for programs to run better on Linux than Windows now
Shit. Might do some testing and see what the deal is.
I'm upgrading to a 9500x3d CPU soon. I think that's what it is. Be curious to see the results.
AMD plays much better with linux because all the drivers are open source. Their new flagship graphics card is cheaper than a 5080 and gets great performance. A good excuse to upgrade your GPU too if you go down the linux path
