Yeah, the flight attendants and pilots working for e.g. Wizz Air are compliant with killing civilians in Palestine. Get a grip.
In a small way they are doing a little to legitimize the occupation by pretending it as a normal state. However the real culprit regarding the flight attendants and pilots are airlines like Wizz Air who are not only chosing to collaborate with a genocidal fascist regime but also to put their employees in harms way.
Israel said they are 'at war'. if you want to fly to and aid genocidaires in a war zone, that's your problem, not ours.
You're aware that airline workers have no choice on where the airline flies to, right? If I get a TLV flight in my roster I can't not go to work because Israel is commiting genocide in Palestine.
Most airlines actually have a clause to reject flights to Israel.
Not any European airline I've worked for or have friends working for.
You can actually. It would be pretty commendable as well.
Go on strike you fucking loser
I have no idea where you live, but where I live one can refuse to work if it is unsafe. Or you could just object on moral grounds and get a different job. Or you can just keep complaining online.
"accidentally" break something on the plane if you're too chickenshit to walk out.
Actually you can
They actually do. They can refuse to fly there. Israel's victims, those people have no choice.
Edit: I want to back my stance up here with an example of what I did about 3 years ago. I used to work for a small NGO and when I accidentally saw some budgeting spreadsheets and saw how much of our funding went to our board members Vs actually buying drugs and paying surveyors and community drug distributors, I quit in disgust. I took a huge pay cut from that. Like 50% of my salary just gone.
So yeah, I think for genocide I would do the same
Sure you can! Just walk out. You can leave! If it sucks, hit da bricks!!
they could refuse to fly to the fascist outpost and thereby put a little bit more pressure on them, but i guess no. it's all fine, they're just doing their job ferrying people to and from a genocidal entity.
So the choices are either lose your job or support Israel?
Yep. Support genocide or quit seems like an easy question to answer.
This feels like a rather privileged take. While it is morally correct to do so, adults typically don't live their lives doing morally correct things all the time. As an example, I think not paying taxes to the US government is also morally correct since taxpayer money goes to support Ukraine and Israel, among other things. When are all US-based hexbear users quitting their jobs?
the US government has a sovereign currency, you not paying taxes doesn't take money out of their coffers it just causes you problems.
not that it matters but i'm too poor to pay federal taxes
I've never been to the US lol
Part of my family lives in Russia and there have been many moral quandaries with respect to continuing to live there and working in an economy increasingly oriented towards producing murder. Some chose to stay, some left; I don't think any choice is for me to judge from a position of superiority.
fuck off, a pilot can get another job
No need to be rude, I don't even disagree with you. Just feel like discussions around this and similar issues tend to go Hegelian and ignore the materialist component of Marxian dialectics, specifically the privilege inherent in boycott, to the point where it feels like the neoliberal "freedom" to work wherever you want is being treated as real.
You're making false equivalences to give a moral shield to genocide so no actually i should be more rude to you
Alright, if you feel this way. I don't feel like I'm shielding anything, rather I am speaking to my life experience as a trans person living in a country that forbade my existence and thus rid me of opportunity to work and survive in a way that would align with my moral convictions. Is it a false equivalence to imagine that I am not unique and other people struggle with similar contradictions, albeit probably for different reasons?
To compare trying to live and work as a trans person in a world that is hostile to people who are trans, to making the dangerous choice to fly to a genocidal apartheid state as an airline pilot in a world where pilots are highly compensated and in demand? Yes, it very much is.
I would agree with you in a vacuum but I understand that every person has their specific circumstances. Are you prepared to say that airline pilots are freely able to choose where and how to work in any country of the world? I am not, and it goes even more so for flight attendants, which were also a part of this conversation.
I'd like to give another example too. As a Jewish person, I've always had and still have the option to repatriate to Israel, escape the dangerous, dehumanising, genocidal towards me environment I am in right now and receive appropriate healthcare from IDF that I will never be able to afford where I am right now. I never took and will never take this option because of my moral convictions and views but saying that it was an "easy question to answer" for me is ignorant of my life experience. The "easy question to answer" in the comment I responded to initially is the reason I responded.
Yeah but have you considered that they weep in sorrow and have minor migraines afterwards? Oh the pain and suffering these "hapless", "choiceless" white collar workers have to go through!
So people should just quit their jobs because the CEO of the Airline decided not to suspend flights to Israel?
yes
Are you actually this stupid or are you trying to win a world's most obtuse fuckinv knob competition
the person that replied to you already provided one of many examples that people in that position could do. The people that are oppressed, that don't have the luxury of having a permanent roof over their heads (any makeshift camps eventually gets destroyed with the people in it as well by the entity), that have their children stolen from them, whether metaphorically or literally, or become orphaned themselves, etc etc don't get to have a say in the matter.
To equate them to fucking flight attendants that are perfectly capable of taking even the most minimal of actions, which at worst case could get them a slap on the wrist, is absurd, disgusting and vile, lib.
