Rules

The rules for behavior are a straight carry over of Mastodon.World's rules. You can click the link but we've reposted them here in brief, as a guideline. We will continue to use the Mastodon.World rules as the master list. Over all, be nice to each other and remember this isn't a community built around debate. For the rules about formatting your posts, scroll down to number 2.

1. Follow the rules of Mastodon.world, which can be found here.

A. Provide an inclusive and supportive environment. This means if it isn't rulebreaking and we can't be supportive to them then we probably shouldn't engage.

B. No illegal content.

C. Use content warnings where appropriate. This means mark your submissions NSFW if need be.

D. No uncivil behavior. This includes, but is not limited to: Name Calling; Bullying; Trolling; Disruptive Commenting; or Personal Criticisms.

E. No Harrassment. As an example in relation to Transgender people this includes, deadnaming, misgendering, and promotion of conversion therapy. Similarly Misogyny, Misandry, and Racism are also banned here.

2. Include a community or instance title and description in your post title. - A following example of this would be New Communities - A place to post new communities or instances all over Lemmy for discovery and promotion.

3. Follow the formatting. - The formatting as included below is important for people getting universal links across Lemmy as easily as possible.

Formatting

Please include this following format in your post:

[link text](/c/[email protected])

This provides a link that should work across instances, but in some cases it won't

You should also include either:

[email protected]

or instance.com/c/community

FAQ:

Q: Why do I get a 404?

A: At least one user in an instance needs to search for a community before it gets fetched. Searching for the community will bring it into the instance and it will fetch a few of the most recent posts without comments. If a user is subscribed to a community, then all of the future posts and interactions are now in-sync.

Q: When I try to create a post, the circle just spins forever. Why is that?

A: This is a current known issue with large communities. Sometimes it does get posted, but just continues spinning, but sometimes it doesn't get posted and continues spinning. If it doesn't actually get posted, the best thing to do is try later. However, only some people seem to be having this problem at the moment.

Before y’all go joining HilariousChaos communities, you may want to consider what some large instances think of the host server

[–] [email protected] -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Some admins can't handle people not respecting their faith. Don't let the irrational beliefs of a few dictate your online experience.

Oh hey, you must be the one posting anti-science transphobia that another commenter on this post was talking about seeing.

This you:

Liberals need to snap back to reality and drop the gender religion crap that cost them the election. Sex is binary and immutable. Trans women are men. Surgery and hormones won’t change that.

The hypocrisy would be laughable if the cruelty wasn’t palpable.

Yeah the conservative community is a trainwreck. Thats every conservative community though not just the one on hc. I blocked it when they first announced it lmao because I knew exactly what it would turn into. Probably why I haven't seen any of the right wing extremism stuff people keep talking about lol

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

That community consistently makes up the majority of the front page of HC. Posts by the admins, a Donald Musk account, and a news bot seem to make up most of the remainder. This should be reflective of what content is posted and encouraged on the site.

Yeah, this seems like an attempt to create a token leftist community to prove that they're not right-wing (despite all active political communities on there being just that). I find it quite funny that they're still looking for an actual leftist to run the community... Good luck with that!

I mean that entire thread is a dumpster fire but I see what you mean

It’s hosted on lemmy.dbzer0.com, which has defederated from your home instance HC. Your admin used an alt account (without immediately identifying themself as an alt of HC’s admin) to comment on that post.

In my earlier link, you can find dbzer0’s reasoning for defeding.

Thanks I did just that and was able to see it :)

[–] [email protected] -5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Or you could visit said communities and make up your own mind.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Okay, I'm looking and... the very first post on the front page of HC is transphobia. Right below that is an antivax conspiracy theory.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Scientific consensus is transphobia?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No, the scientific consensus is very much trans-positive. But thanks for coming here to show your true colors and prove my point.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The scientific consensus is that sex is binary and immutable. If you disagree, feel free to provide any citation to the contrary.

Which by the way, does not inherently involve transgender people at all. People can feel and present however they want. They cannot however change their biological sex, regardless of how many hormones or surgeries they get. This is a fact that you cannot refute. You're free to disagree, but know that you're denying basic science. You're entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts.

Basic science < slightly more advanced science. I didn’t notice any of these sources mentioning chimeras or twins absorbed in the womb but they’re also relevant. Biological sex is physical and to my knowledge there’s no current technology that can, say, override the DNA of every cell in a body. Gender is abstract and therein flexible. Learn how to use a search engine and don’t be a bigot or obdurate. Also, I’d prefer if you stayed off of my Lemmy feed too.

There’s literally no posts in the linked community but I’m happy to have been informed that the instance is a revival of Exploding Heads, an instance I have previously formed my own opinions on, as you suggest. Knowledge is power.

The discussion of exploding-heads on sh.itjust.works before they defederated is pretty interesting: https://sh.itjust.works/post/564252 If you can't see that link bc of defederation, look at it anonymously or on a web browser.

When lemmy.world defederated, there were some examples of why, though the discussion isn't as interesting: https://lemmy.world/post/747912

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The forefather of your current instance but with even more trolling and right-wing extremism.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

Yeah trolling is a whatever issue for me, I'm not bothered by it. I haven't seen any right wing extremism stuff. I am blatantly leftist and haven't been kicked out of hc. I think tolerance of leftism sorta disqualifies it from being extremist lmao. I didn't realise so many instances de-federated from hc. When I had my account deleted from lemm.ee with no warning for expressing my disapproval of moderators I joined hc. I'd had fun interactions with Alice before and the instance description stated they had a free speech policy (paraphrasing) so I joined up. There's a few things I dislike such as downvotes not being visible but when I brought that up the whole community actually had a discussion about it which I'd never experienced before and made me feel like I was actually part of a community. I'll think about trying out another instance to see if being de-federated from really bothers me. Ideally I want to be able to talk with as many people as possible.
