UK Politics
General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both [email protected] and [email protected] .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
[email protected] appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

The BTP jumped on this almost instantly as they'd been under fire because trans women on the force could strip search those AFAB.
I'm waiting for next shoe to drop when someone AFAB complains because they get strip searched by a big hairy bloke because he was also AFAB. At no point does anyone seem to have considered the effect this law will have on trans men now having to go into women-only spaces. I don't think JK Rowling cares about the messy fallout from her War on Trans Women.
What continues to amaze me is the animosity towards trans people by the TERFs. They're like religious zealots. It's depressing to see such spite empowered by law.
But beforehand an assigned-big-hairy-bloke-at-birth could claim to be female one day and strip search an afab woman the next day.
So either way, women are going to be strip searched by big hairy blokes
No.
Not as far as I'm aware - The Guardian says it was only officers who trans women with a GRC who were allowed to search those AFAB. So officers couldn't pick and chose to suit them.
Fair enough, although weren't the Scottish able to get that via a deed poll?
Last time I checked, a deed poll doesn't let you change your gender, deed polls are for changing your name. You don't even have to be trans for that. I foresee many tragedeighs changing their names as soon as they're old enough, for example.
That's what I was asking
The answer to all your "okay I was wrong, but..." questions is "no".
okay
Wasn't that something that the Scottish were just handing out left and right?
Have you considered looking stuff up instead of spouting lies on the internet?
I like discussion
In Scotland you're required to live in your aquired gender for two years with the intent to do so permanently, you also need a diagnosis from a gender specialist as well as your GP.
There isn't really a discussion to be had here, you said something untrue and now you're being corrected.
If you want to have a discussion, why don't we talk about where you're getting these ideas from and why you believe them. What makes you think police officers are changing their gender on a day by day basis?
Right wing media
Why do you believe such obvious bullshit? Why spread it on the Internet?
That's why I'm asking here, to balance it out and get a more balanced and well rounded viewpoint. Not everybody wants to live in an echo chamber.
That doesn't answer the question.
Introducing lies to a discussion doesn't make for a more well rounded conversation, it just creates noise. You're just blaring the reverberations of your personal echo chamber into the public forum and pretending like it's a novel perspective nobody has considered.
You're like: "Everyone here is talking about orbital mechanics, but have you considered the earth is flat?" It's not insightful or interesting, that it's just nonsense. Diverse perspectives are only valuable if they have a basis in reality.
Personally I think you're doing it to get a rise out of people, I think the disagreement is fun, it's like a game you can play to make the situation feel less serious. Just a bit of trolling.
I'm blaring the reverberations of one echo chamber into another echo chamber
You're ripping a fart in the public square and calling it discourse. You're a fool.
You're the one calling other people's opinions "farts". You're in an echo chamber, not a public square
I'm calling the misinformation you're spreading a fart, because it's noxious noise. It's a metaphor for spreading lies without consideration of the truth. Scotland's gender recognition certificates aren't an opinion, it's a government policy. Your aren't offering a diverse perspective, you're simply incorrect, proudly trumpeting your inaccuracies to get attention.
I posed it as a question for a reason
I sure as fuck am not about to take your word for it, you have all sorts of nutty ideas.
I'm the nutty guy of lemmy, I guess 🤣
Though I have no direct personal experience myself, from others I know, I was given the impression it takes a lot of complicated legal paperwork, medical proof, over half a year and about £1000. That's in England though - I'm not sure if the process is streamlined in Scotland in any way.
