I think it’s intentional, and I like it. Shows the family similarity, and gene/features do tend to express themselves more strongly in the generation after. Or at least in my family experience, my parents are both brown hair and eyed but many of my siblings have the blonde hair and blue/grey eyes of my grandparents.
It's definitely intentional!
And I think the added benefit is that it subconsciously reminds the viewers of the original series, evoking positive feelings :P
