For the curious, the original text says "cute" in Japanese (the infamous "kawaii")

What? No it doesn't. かわいい is usually written in Hiragana. I've never seen it written this way. 可愛い I've never seen it with these Kanji. I mean it kinda makes sense, with what 愛 means, but I've never seen this.
