Yes, and it can get quite despicable - no matter political leanings. But American Conservative propaganda is on a completely different level. They actively change the definitions of words and have never once argued in good-faith. It is a societal poison that is historical in scale - it is not just "another" disinformation campaign.
Like I said, your words will not change reality. If you had investments, they have been completely wiped. The purchasing power of your dollar has decreased. The diplomatic power of your passport has decreased. Your drinking water is on track to become carcinogenic (if it's not already). Your health access to health-services will be worse (than it already is). Your national parks are going to be flogged and libraries torn apart. There is movement to ban books and destroy sources of knowledge.
There is not a single demographic in the country (other than the extremely corrupt involved with Trump) that benefit from the incoming consequences. Like I said, the country has only had this bad an outlook during the Great Depression.
If you want to cope, whatever. Enjoy living to 45 and having your kids work in Florida sweatshops.

And will bounce back stronger than before. Not only did I have investments, I am actually buying more. I am buying a bunch of stocks. because prices are low. If all investments were truly wiped, how come we don't see wealthy people out on the streets crying that everything has been wiped out? Because they are doing the same thing. Nothing has been "wiped" unless you sell.

I'm actually 50 and I'm retired and enjoying life, and my kids are married, happy and have great jobs and enjoying life.
How old are you? Nothing you are saying is reality! lol
The fact that you use terms like "bounce back" means you don't understand the moment we are living in. The fact that you are only taking your situation into account instead of the average-person's means you are lacking empathy. The fact that you think that your opinions weigh more than the research of peer-reviewed experts means arrogance.
Life will get worse, and you will not beat this fact. It's the unfortunate but foreseen conclusion of those who refuse to see the world with any nuance or insight.

A lot of people like to play pretend and be arm-chair experts, but in have zero understanding of what's happening around them. This is what's called being a cosplayer, or a larper.
I am simply listening to what the (proven) experts have to say, and their reasoning. They show analysis and historical data and say we are heading for a deep recession - going depression. Yet you, "Donald Musk", are saying they are wrong because of how you feel. Like I said it's quite unfortunate.
Also today is Sunday, there is no market data - but as you've seen the market has undergone historic losses these past few days. And if you've been listening to anyone with a pulse, people have lost the opportunity to retire because of this. But you, "Donald Musk", say it is not happening - so I must be "depressed and cringy".
You say I am "doom scrolling" - but I am simply see trends, where they are going, and what the experts have to say. I'm saying a lot of bad things, because a lot of bad things are happening - your feelings will not change reality.
It becomes obvious who is lost the moment they are pressed on the tangibles. So I will ask, what are the prices of eggs near you? Near me it is 24.99 retail and 18.99 sale - up around 12 from Trump's inauguration. Do you think most Americans can afford this? Do you think Trump has made this situation better or worse? Now tell me, "Donald Musk", am I "doom scrolling" when I say most Americans will not be able to afford to eat normal food by the end of the year?
I will reiterate, disinformation will not change reality. Every objective measure of your life will get worse - this is not "doom scrolling", it's the data. This is what happens when people who have no idea how to govern or strategize take command - this is the consequences of their actions.

Of course. But seems like if people's livelihoods were truly wiped out, and everyone lost their wealth, there'd be more about it in the news and the consequences of that.
That's because all it is, is a big market dip. Won't last very long. Rich people know it, the markets know it, the news knows it, most of the US knows it, but yet, somehow Lemmy refuses to know it. LMAO

But every economist in the world seems to agree, we are entering uncharted territory here, and no amount of copium is going to change the fact that these tariffs are a very very very bad idea.
Yes, in a certain number of years the market will rebound (likely with a democrat in office, as history shows) and people who can weather the storm and still invest will come out ahead. The problem is, that will be a decreasing number of people. This is a money grab from the ultra-wealthy, taking from the middle class.
Turn off Fox News, a recession/depression is a bad thing.
So I wanna get this straight, because I'm saving this post: So do you think the market will stay down until a democrat is voted president? You don't think it's going to rebound within the next month, next year or four years?
If I could time the market, I wouldn’t be here discussing it with you, I’d be on a boat somewhere. If the market does rebound in the next short time period, it’ll be because these tariffs are rescinded, and we get back to sensible economic policy. In which case, it would look like market manipulation to me.
But yes, if we continue on this reckless isolationist path, I would expect the market to be down until some equally large changes are made in the other direction. And yes, that would likely be years.
I’m also not making the statement that it’ll be a Democrat in office when these damages are undone. History makes that statement for me.

I don't think things will be bad at all. Many economists have said this is pain in the short term, but in the long term, things will be stronger than before.
I'm going to buy as much stock as I can tomorrow when the market opens. Most wealthy people I know will be doing the same.
Based upon information current and trajectory, I do expect it to get much worse, and for it to be several years to recover. And I’d base “recovery” on more than just the S&P; unemployment, inflation, wealth disparity, and other markers of a healthy economy.
But I also foresee this incredibly unstable administration from possibly making moves to swing the markets in the other direction. If it does “recover” quickly, it’s because they just picked out collective pockets. Insider trading on a global scale.
Remember, these are moves made by someone who bankrupted his own casinos. Sometimes, if it walks like a duck…
And I don't agree with this. So I guess we'll find out. I actually think it's going to be a quick turnaround.
At what point, measured by whatever metric you wish, would you agree?
Before you ask, I’ll answer the inverse. I’d consider myself wrong when (if) markets, inflation, and unemployment return to what they were on Jan 19 of this year.

Hi. So about the market... Sure am glad I bought a shit-ton of stocks and crypto over last few days when the big crash happened. I'm making bank now.

Oh I know it's still super volatile. Just wondering if you had any updated thoughts based on how wild the swings are getting. Because I'm still on track and haven't changed my mind either.
The wild swings are probably allowing insider trading to rob the American public of their savings. Hardly a way to run an economy.
I’m a conservative investor. I put away what I can afford into my retirement fund, and in 20 years hopefully they’ll be enough there.
If you want to swing big, go play with crypto or forex or sports betting. Turning the world’s largest economy into an Atlantic City casino or the shittiest pyramid scheme shouldn’t be for wild speculation.
What do I think? I think you’re gonna be up 100% in the short term, losing it all in the long term. And we’ll all be poorer until such time as a progressive policymaker (god willing) takes the big seat again.

Well I'm already retired, so I'm set there. And I never buy more than I can afford to lose, so even if it all went south, I'd be good.
But I also don't hold on to stuff long. I take my profit quick. I buy when it's low, as soon as it's high enough for me to make decent profit after fees, I sell. I don't just hold and hold for things like this. Obviously I have long term investments, and those I don't bother with.
This is just my vegas money, so it's been mostly fun to watch.
