World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

god damn the liberal smugness in this thread is revolting
you’re seeing a fucking genocide being orchestrated right before your eyes and all you can think of is "well at least I voted for the slightly less worse party" ???
go fuck yourselves
We told people what would happen:
Harris wanted to reach a cease fire deal and a two state solution, stated multiple times.
Trump wanted a genocide over there AND a genocide over here...
Only one of them could win, pick your poison. Failing to support Harris elects Trump.
Biden said he wanted the same thing, all while sending arms for genocide. And blocking the UN from halting it...
That's the thing... Biden wasn't sending arms "for genocide". Biden was sending arms for the legitimate defense of Israel from attacks from Iran.
You know, like this:
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c70w1j0l488o
The problem was, Bibi and Likud are dishonest brokers and re-directed that support into the genocide.
They didn't need our help with it, they started killing people on 10/7 before we even approved support, much less sent it, and the most egregious offenses have been done with sniper bullets which are ubiquitous and cheap.
Oh! Like we sent nerve agents to Hussesin to use on Iran?
If it wasn't to be used for a genocide, why did the Dems block all ceasefires?
The Dems didn't block any cease fires, it wasn't up to them. Seriously, just google "Cease fire rejected".

That's a UN resolution, not an actual cease fire. The cease fire would require agreement from the warring parties involved.
And god, our history of vetoing UN resolutions against Israel is as long as my arm.
My favorite goes back to George W. Bush and his excuse to invade Iraq, if you recall he kept going on and on about how Iraq was in violation of something like 17 or 18 resolutions... Meanwhile Israel was breaking over 80 of them and it would have been more than 100 except for the US veto.
A resolution, for a ceasefire, that the US blocked.
And yes, US backing genocide has a long, and storied tradition, if you will. Hitler got his "best" ideas for it, from the US.
A resolution that had no binding action on Israel or Hamas is not a cease fire. It's a performative action of "Israel bad", which is why the US vetoed it.
Well good news for you, we have the seeds of literal genocide at home too! Aren't you proud of yourself
It’s an odd kind of projection on their part. They were upset that their beloved candidate was getting attacked and told us to put our pain aside and shut up and fall in line. They were mad that their beloved candidate got protests because they betrayed their own constituents, asking “why aren’t you protesting Trump?” when many of us protested both when they were in office.
They’re just sour because Biden/Harris had nothing to show for their failed policy and don’t want us to remember the promises they broke during both campaigns.
I'm "sour" because I had to flee the country because people like you cared more about a genocide on the other side of the planet than the genocides that were going to start (and now have started) domestically.
And people like you still obviously don't care about them. Some are denying they are happening or will ever happen.
Look, principally I agree with your comments under this post, but this one was more miss than hit. The "genocide on the other side of the planet" is no less meaningful than your domestic ones.
Are you fucking kidding me? Two additional genocides is not a bigger fucking deal than one already happening?
You sure showed them, didn’t you? I’ll bet Palestine is overjoyed with your decision to not participate in helping elect someone that isn’t trying to force them from their homes and sending even more tonnage of weapons to be used against them!
So… much… winning!
You guys speak just like smug redditors. istg. People who don't support genocide aren't gonna vote someone who'll send money to said genociders. It's not a question of wining/loosing. They tried to make the democrats listen, and the democrats didn't listen. Blame your beloved party for giving the votes to trump rather than stop funding a genocide
If they did the same for trans people, would you say "shut up and vote cause at least it's better for black people"?
If they did the same for black people, would you say "shut up and vote cause it's better for women"?
ah but why didn’t i, the person living in canada, vote??? clearly a moral failing on my part /s
im not arguing against voting for the lesser evil. i think it’s a worthwhile action to do, sometimes.
what i find disgusting is the reaction here. we should all be horrified at this, talking about what we can do, if anything, and what are y’all saying? "uuh i fucking told you lol, lmao, hope you’re happy lol"
NO ONE’S HAPPY ABOUT THIS!!!
