MODERATORS

Hi!

Sometimes, a comment is deleted by a mod, and I'd like to see what it said without having to dig it manually.

For multiple reasons:

  • To keep mods accountable: We have seen mods abusing their power on some communities.
  • To understand context when reading replies of deleted comments.

Now, of course they shouldn't simply show in the UI, it should show as deleted, but I could see an option to retrieve it from the "three dots" menu.

Thanks for the app!

It's obvious you already know this, but posting for others who might be unaware:

If you see deleted comments, you can go to the bottom of the community's sidebar and click the "Modlog" button above the mod list. It'll bring you to a page like this where you can see all mod actions in that community including the full text of deleted comments. Here you can see the two in OP's screenshot were (rightfully) removed for being conspiracy theories.

What mod log button in the side bar? Don’t see one for the few random community side bars I just checked

Here it is for this community we're in right now, as an example:

Probably a good time for me to mention I don't actually use Voyager though. I just use the desktop site. No clue how or even if you can find this on that app.

Ah it’s a web vs app thing. Not in the app

And this is where it belongs. There's accountability for the mods in one place, and the garbage is actually removed from the main area.

The point of removing the garage isn't to just put a spoiler tag over it.

I think if you go to the modlog, click on a removed thing, THEN it'll take you to a version of the thread where you can show deleted comments. You can still see the content anyways, it's just more difficult to follow and make an informed view of what was happening.

I just wish the mod log showed who removed the comments.

That can lead to harassment, which we're already having some issues with. But it's reasonable.

For instance, a community made to harass one specific mod.

This was yesterday afternoon.

but it keeps mods accountable for their actions. iirc it's a toggle that's on by default, I don't think it should be removed entirely but I think it should be off by default

Why not make it a choice of the user? You can already choose to blur nsfw images by default or not. Why not a checkbox β€œshow removed comments inline” and leave it up to the user to decide if they want it or not?

Why bother removing it at all?

You answered a question with a question. My point of giving the user a choice still stands. The information is already available, it just makes it easier for people to consume if desired. No where in there did I say it should be the default either.

Thx. I always forget about this stuff.
