I was a total square, didn't try pot until they legalized it in my state in my late 30s. So I don't have a frame of reference for dealer weed, but all of my friends who did use cannabis all day that dispensaries are both way cheaper than what they were paying and the quality is better too.
Where I am it's not too hard to find a deal where I can get an ounce for $100. That will last me quite a while as I dry vape instead of smoking. A quarter gram in my volcano will send me to space.
Of course, I'd love to try growing my own, and I will most likely do so at some point. But the dispensaries in my area have all been wonderful, with none of the issues in this meme.
