An Australian man is set to appear in court after being arrested for the alleged theft of more than A$600,000 (€359,880) worth of commemorative coins linked to the popular children's television show "Bluey", police said.

The 47-year-old is accused of stealing 63,000 unreleased, limited-edition A$1 coins from a secure warehouse in the Sydney suburb of Wetherill Park in June, according to "Strike Force Bandit", a special unit police set up to investigate the theft.

"Strike Force Bandit" is honestly an incredible name. For those not familiar with the show the father is called Bandit.

Those numbers don’t add up. How are they worth ten times face value? Is bluey that popular?

Commemorative coins are sometimes really expensive here, the Royal Australian Mint has a shop where you can pay hundreds for some special coins.

Either that article or maybe another one I read says the coins are being traded at ten times their face value by collectors so yeah, maths seems right.

Like of lot of this kids stuff it's popular, look at how much to those bloody "free" Woolworths(?) little plastic groceries they give away from time to time go for!

Yeah it's hugely popular. According to that article the 14th highest-rated show of all time on IMDB. It was an event for my kids when Disney started releasing the last part of season 3 weekly on a Sunday a few months back.

It's also a very easy watch as an adult tbh. Like some kids shows are brain death to have to sit through for a cuddle and this is definitely not one of them.

Good question, ill ask all the bluey merchandise my kids, wife, brother, and mum brought.
