Secondly, they may not deserve any respect or kindness but using insults based on homophobia or misogyny isn't showing disrespect to them (they're never gonna read your fucking Lemmy comments), it's making this site a less pleasant space for the types of people who are targeted by this kinda shit on a regular basis.

Gay people are people first, and some people are bad people, gay or not. I am under no obligation to support or excuse bad people just because they are gay, and I am not homophobic because I call out bad gay people for their poor behavior.

I didn't say that at all, but it can't be denied that we have seen many cases some of the worst anti-gay politicians and preachers turning out to be gay themselves, so when I see someone making it a huge focus, I assume that's their personal issue. It almost always turns out to be true.
The most common anti-gay bigotry comes from those who don't talk about it, and just don't like people just because they are gay. I don't think that those people are gay, just stupid.
But if you are making a big deal about it, and getting in the media to complain about it, you are probably covering something up. Mentally balanced people, gay or straight, don't behave that way.
