At least eight killed in deadly Kenya protests: What we know

Several protesters were killed and at least 400 others were wounded on Wednesday when antigovernment protests in the capital, Nairobi turned deadly.

Kenyan officials have not disclosed the number of casualties. Reports from media and rights groups varied, placing the number of dead between eight and 16.

This is the latest outbreak of violence in the East African country where young demonstrators have frequently taken to the streets in recent months to protest myriad issues including police brutality, government corruption and high taxes.

The demonstrations on Wednesday were held to mark the bloody June 25, 2024, protests against tax rises when police opened fire on large numbers of protesters, killing at least 60, according to rights groups

My partner called the woman in this image "cunty"

[–] [email protected] 0 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (1 children)

I honestly have no idea what it may have been before removed but I'm laughing my ass off at removedy

[–] [email protected] 0 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

It was a c word that is meant to be used endearingly from one woman to another. Didn't realize it got removed lol

While the usage of the word is definitely intended as feminist positivity, I assume it's been removed because of possible trans exclusion? Idk I'm a fucking white dude, can someone please confirm or deny?

I don't know about hexbears rules, but cunt (or c%%t to y'all) is just a dirty word for vulva, on par with dick or cock. UK folks use it as an insult pretty commonly, and Americans seem to have elevated to the Worst Word now, somehow replacing fuck (f%%k) as the supreme curse word.

A lot of woman reclaim it and use it as praise, like calling someone "cunty" to mean like "confident" and "motivated." or to say someone is "serving cunt" is similar: being very powerful and confident in a femme way.

I do not think it is anti-trans, though I am a cis-man so this is second hand. The trans women I know and see, though, use phrases lie "serving cunt" frequently, particularly among each other. A bit of vulgar femme talk, "hanging with the girls" kind of language, I would think is actually quite reassuring and helps one to feel accepted as a woman.

Obviously, calling a trans-man "cunty" would be a very different kind of situation though, and i hope folks here can recognize that.

Thanks a ton for the input. As a cishet dude whose org is mostly cishet (by representation), I don't get a lot of contact with the collective, so it's nice to have a space like Hexbear where I can safely express my questions.

Lots of love <3

Most people on Lemmy are male outside of hexbear so maybe it's for the best

What's for the best? Sorry, I'm dumb. I'm just asking if that's the reason for the removal

[–] [email protected] 0 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

oh just removing specific works like the c word is probably for the best due to the high amounts of redditors on the fediverse

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 hours ago

Gotcha, thanks <3

My partner and I would also like to know as it is part of our daily vernacular

[–] [email protected] 0 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (1 children)

Please say the word was "rowdy"

Idk how to get around the filters but this might work:

She called her C u n t y

[–] [email protected] 0 points 15 hours ago

we don't usually do that here but imo this specific case isn't problematic
