I realise I really miss that feature from 10 years ago. Any (foss) app doing that?

HoleyLight sounds like what you're searching for. I've never personally tried it though.

I just tried on android 14. Very complicated to set up ( I barely understood half the questions, also why does it want to connect to a remote device is beyond me). And I didn't get it working after playing with all the parameters. I am sure chainfire knows what he's doing, so maybe I will dig in xda for support. Also it says up to 5.5% battery per hour ๐Ÿ˜ต

Edit: after playing with it today, I got how it interacts with aod in general and managed to get it work. I'll see what is the actual impact on battery over several days and see if it's worth the trade off
