A Boring Dystopia

Park vehicles in garage, if possible Ensure your driveway is well lit and keep exterior lights on all night Security cameras are an asset If possible, install a home security system – activate alarm on STAY when home and AWAY when out Consider having a motion detection alarm connected to your cell phone Put security film on glass windows and doors Have multipoint door locks on your doors Keep backyard gates locked and ground windows secured Do not post on social media when you will be away on holiday Report suspicious vehicles/persons in the neighbourhood to police

Sounds expensive. how about just "Everyone gets a car!"

I live in Toronto and work in condo management. I once called the cops about a car theft in the building. We had hd camera footage with the entire act, clear faces, getaway car, plates, everything. The cops could not even pretend to care, and right away told us there wasn't anything to be done. They act annoyed when we call them about attempted break ins at the building.

But if you're Walmart, they'll be all over those shop lifters for you. The rest of us get the shaft. Toronto police is a disgrace, always has been. Never forget the G20.

My father is a cop. We talked about car thefts because it was in the news and he told me they had some federal police come in and give them a lesson on how these car theft rings work. He said nobody at the local station understood it. It was far too technical and convoluted. He said all he knows for sure is that they work in groups and one guy has a laptop. Also, the people who touch the cars are mules who know little to nothing about the group they work for and often get paid in crypto currency. Then he told me nobody at the station knows how crypto currency works.

Police are way behind on crimes involving any sort of technology.
