SHOW NOTES

We have a big chat with Malcolm Harris about his new book — What’s Left: Three Paths Through the Planetary Crisis — which takes seriously the fact that “the whole total world is in crisis” and then seriously advances three different ways to understand, confront, and overcome these disastrous conditions. We walk through the pathways that Malcolm stakes out — marketcraft, public power, and communism — and use the bland discourse around Abundance as a foil for the far more incisive analysis he lays out in What’s Left.

In season 5 episode 5 at around 18 minutes they claim Lon Nol, US supported fascist dictator of Cambodia from 1972 to 1975, had miniature furniture custom made for him to long larger. Any idea where I can find their sources because I need to find a picture of this.

Thanks

Hey all, we think 30 Rock is the best live action sitcom of the 2000s, so we get into why with Chris, who's also a big fan. A show so prescient about free market desperation that that it successfully foretold Milf Manor, The Floor, Deal or No Deal Island (God Cop to follow, surely). Big themes are:

  • NBC as Legacy media
  • Feminism and intersectionality
  • Improv as comedy scaffolding
  • the show's politics

Finally, The Deprogram has embraced Movie Mindset and made a movie review episode. Here, they review Costa-Gavras’ 1972 thriller State of Siege.

Will and Hesse watch two horror films starring Tom Atkins: John Carpenter’s The Fog (1980) and Tommy Lee Wallace’s Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982).
