Around the time I first started using this username about 7 or so years ago, I was playing through the Megaman Zero games, that take place approximately 100 years after the events of Megaman X, which take place during "year 21xx". So 'Zero22xx' specifically references the version of Zero from the Megaman Zero games.

On top of that, I also just thought it was a cool mix of letters and numbers that can look pretty random if you don't know the games, or if I'm not using a profile pic.

The only annoying thing is that at some point around the time I created this username, I started seeing an anime character called 'ZeroTwo' around. So I guess it could be mistaken that I'm referencing that too.

I've definitely not got anything against Japanese wrestling. Watched NJPW for a little while a few years ago. Although one of the main things I watch pro wrestling for is the storylines and larger than life characters, more so than workrate (although there's nothing wrong with technical masterpiece matches either). And I also appreciate women's wrestling.

If I could find both of those aspects, plus I didn't have to watch 5 shows a week and follow social media accounts, I'd be happy to try anything from any country. TNA was basically just the easiest option that offered all of this.

I'm late here but felt like sharing my goblin tendencies too. I've actually got a lot of random shit that I collect and keep in a box, thought I would take a couple of my favourites out. Sorry for potato quality picture, I have a potato quality phone.

  • A plasticky spiked collar that a stripper I used to party with and had a huge crush on took off from her neck on put on mine one night. And no, I'm not the strip club type and never even watched her work, her and her colleagues and friends used to frequent the metal/alternative club that I haunted. ~~15 to 20 years ago.~~ Actually I'm not that old yet, more like 10 to 15 years ago.
  • A card with a witch that I found lying on the ground probably also around 15 years ago. Says "creative child games" on the back.
  • A completely washed away and blank puzzle piece that I also picked up off the ground somewhere.
  • A round rock with the word "Safety" written on it that was randomly handed to me by a hippie girl at a music festival years ago.
  • A very poorly cut black tourmaline (or so I was told) that I bought at a flea market for way too much money while tripping balls on ecstacy. That was while I was still in my hippie phase so very close to 20 years ago.
  • Lucky beans! I've just always loved them since I was a kid and have bunch floating around. I've even put some in the linings of one of my jackets.

I've actually been a boring hermit for at least the last 10 years, so I'm running out of trinkets with cool stories attached to them though.

Wondering if I'm even looking forward to TNA at all now. Not to signal that I have virtues or anything but this Tessa business has left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.

If they had done this a year or two ago, I wouldn't have liked it but I would've been more inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt that they knew what they're doing and it's a genuine redemption arc. But the timing of this makes it look more like they're doing this because they just don't have to pretend to care anymore.

Plus, maybe I'm making false connections but with all of the wrestlers, including TNA diehards, that have just left without a word, it really does seem like something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

Thinking I might take a break for a couple of weeks and reset, look for something else. Just not sure what yet.

Oh yeah that's for sure. I think the first Sonic movie especially took us all by surprise because we were all expecting something truly awful and it turned out to be pretty fun. And these movies are what got me revisiting Sonic in the first place. And I'm just gonna say, because the '90s kid in me can't help comparing the two, they're better movies than Super Mario at least, which was also fun but kinda like an extended Nintendo advert.

It's just that watching Sonic 3 now after I've spent the last 6 months to a year consuming other Sonic content, I've realised that these movies aren't actually such great adaptations.

I hope that James Gunn keeps this shit up throughout the DCU and the next few years, personally. Peacemaker also had some good hearty doses of shitting on white supremacist types, so it seems to be his thing.

Someone needs to start keeping a central list of all corporations and organisations that have been rolling over like they've been waiting for this moment all their lives. Just to keep around as reminders, any time they decide to do a little rainbow capitalism or black history month marketing.

If the world, and especially the USA regains its senses, please all I ask is that everyone remembers exactly who these people are when they're begging for your money and support again.

LineageOS 20 on the Nokia 4.2. The only option for this phone besides LineageOS 19 and it's one of these cases where the dev just stopped updating anything and deleted their XDA profile. Might go back to vanilla but the problem is that's a downgrade in Android version too.

This whole phone is a regret. My previous phone had just died unexpectedly and it was a spur of the moment purchase with a low budget, based on nostalgia for a 'Nokia' that doesn't actually exist anymore. Should've just gone for a cheap Samsung and I probably would've at least had more choice in custom firmwares.

All depends on which app / UI you're using I guess but it should look pretty much like Reddit almost everywhere. The only difference here is that there's no grand total at the top of your profile like a high score. But when I was signed up on world, in the app I'm using you could see separate up and down vote counts for everything.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 9 hours ago (10 children)

They're really not meaningless though. For one thing, they allow moderators and admins to more easily detect trolls and bad faith actors. And on platforms or with add-ons that allow better tracking of vote history, it allows the user to more efficiently moderate their own experience, should they so choose.

Also, I think you've got to be kind of an asshole to not recognise that a little bit of validation from communities that you participate in is a nice thing to have and that downvotes can hurt to an extent, even if it's not the same as getting physically slapped. And to be clear, I'm not pointing at you or anyone, I'm just riffing here. I haven't even seen downvotes for a while now.

So yeah, I'd say they're meaningless in a video game sense. You're not going to win any prizes with them. But there's a reason they exist, plus no one is immune to the effects of positive or negative reinforcement.

movies are meant for general audiences

I definitely hear your point but also, maybe always trying to take this middle of the road, lowest common denominator, please all the pearl clutchers approach and turning everything into a bland , soulless gruel isn't that great? This also makes me think of the Crow. Not even counter culture shit is safe from the bean counters or sacred anymore.

All I'm saying is that I think it's about time punk rock made a comeback but it's never going to happen as long as all of our entertainment providers just give us this weak shit to maximize their profits.

I've been making my way through the games, haven't got close to present day with them yet though. As far as I can tell though, he's still more or less the same freedom loving free spirit that stands up to injustices.

About bloody time. Containers are fine for on the fly use - for checking what pages look like logged out, or visiting a link that you don't want affecting algorithms etc. but for separating personal and work and whatever else, profiles are the way to go. It's actually already pretty easy to add 'about:profiles' to the toolbar but the more accessible they make it, the better.

I look forward to profiles also making it to the Android app 5 to 10 years from now.

I hope that this is the right place for this, please let me know if there's somewhere more appropriate because I'm not sure where it actually fits.

Let me just start this off by saying, I recognise that these are kids movies and I also thank these movies for bringing me back into the franchise and revisiting such a big part of my childhood. In fact what's great is that it's introducing a new generation of kids to it.

Just finished Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and after spending the last 6+ months (re)watching all the animated adaptations and (re)playing the games, I really don't think I enjoyed it as much as the first two movies. And I've realised that Sonic has actually been characterized pretty badly here and completely tamed and watered down. And even more so, I feel like this displays a larger problem in mainstream media right now.

Sonic in the '90s and 2000s:

Back in the '90s when I was a kid, we had two Sonic cartoons running at the same time. In both of them, Sonic was an anti-authoritarian "freedom fighter", trying to topple Robotnik's tyranny. One of them had little PSAs like calls to respect those who are different from you or warnings about scammers and false info. It was woke before woke was a thing. The other one involved Robotnik, the tyrant, stomping out free thinking by turning people into robot slaves. A not so subtle message.

In fact even without the cartoons, from the first game it's a pretty easy assumption to make that the little blue guy with the mohawk / spikes that runs around smashing machines and freeing the animals is supposed to be some sort of rebel. I promise that it wasn't too much for my little 7 or 8 year old brain to handle back then.

Then we get to the Modern era of Sonic, which gave us Sonic Adventure with wall to wall heavy metal and cool guitar solos. And little surprises like weed leaves placed in certain locations. And the defacto animated adaptation of this era was Sonic X, where Sonic blatantly shows no respect or even disrespect to authorities fairly regularly. But always with the message of doing the right thing. At one point, he inspires the 'freedom movement' which sees people quitting their jobs by the masses, dyeing and spiking their hair and just living their lives their way (I'd love to know where they got their income from though).

Sonic the Hedgehog movies:

Which brings me to these movies. I had fun watching all of them but now I am realising just how watered down and wrong a lot of the characterisation is. Instead of being about rebellion, it's about 'family'. Instead of heavy metal and weed leaves, it's top 40 pop and McDonald's references. Apart from an Easter egg thrown in here or there like a bone.

And I realised that the characterisation of Sonic, Knuckles and Robotnik are more like Sonic Boom than any game or other adaptation, except with all the adult references and humour removed. And Sonic Boom isn't known for its faithful representations either but still at least has some edge.

The Declawing of Media:

When I look around at the world today, I think that we need anti-authoritarian icons like Sonic the Hedgehog more than ever. But all of the movie studios and all of the artists are beholden to fucking suits that don't want to take any risks in case their precious money flow gets harmed.

And so we're left with a world where the art that used to inspire kids and teenagers to rage against the machine and keep it real has all become safe and boring and paint by the numbers. And so they're being attracted by douchebag podcasters that give them something to rebel against instead.

I feel like the Sonic the Hedgehog movies so far are a great representation of just how stale and corporate everything has become. I believe they call it enshittification. And I'm thinking that maybe Hollywood and the music industry are just as much to blame for the state of affairs today as social media. And not because of the wOkE agENdA but because no one has a fucking spine anymore and everything is trying to chase numbers on charts that go up and down. Enshittification is more than just social media design IMO.

It was suggested that I post this idea to the community proper. So I'm just copying and pasting the comment that I made, edited to make it clear which post I'm referencing (which is the next most recent post here anyway). I hope I got the link right in order to work with all of this federation mumbo jumbo.

I’m too new to be making these kinds of suggestions and I’m far from the moderator type myself but multiple times throughout this week, I’ve been thinking that it would be pretty cool if there was an AskBlåhaj. Or even just general Ask Lemmy based here, that could be asking for unwanted attention from shitty people on other instances though.

Not even 24 hours after seeing this post, I’ve seen someone else getting the snark and a non answer for a simple question. And also a Blåhaj user.

As much of a public bathroom as it could be, AskReddit was pretty fun for ‘silly’ questions and general chatting. And a nice place for new users to hang around and gain karma and confidence. But with the gatekeeper neckbeardy types around, maybe what it needs on Lemmy is to be in an instance with rules that promote friendliness and good vibes.

Just an idea to throw out there anyway.

Mbin support? (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

I hope this isn't a question that's already been asked to death, in app search for "mbin" isn't all that helpful.

I'm still in the stages of looking for a permanent home here in the fediverse. So far mbin has really caught my eye because it's basically Lemmy+ for all intents and purposes (at least for mine). I'm not all that happy with what looks like the only Android app though.

So I was wondering if there were any plans to add mbin functionality to any existing Lemmy apps? Even if I used a Lemmy app solely for the 'Threads' or Lemmy section of mbin, then used the web page or only mbin app for everything else, I would be fine with that.

I tried to see if I could sign in with the app that I'm currently using (Eternity), with the kbin.earth instance and no luck. So obviously the API is just that much different.

Are any devs here thinking of expanding their apps in future? Or is there one I've missed? I've seen more than one app with the description "For Lemmy and the Fediverse", but what exactly is meant by "and the Fediverse" is unclear.

First the bugs:

  • Trying to edit the top tabs such as rename or rearrange seems to do absolutely nothing, although the changes that you make in settings seem to stick.

  • Changing the default server for the 'Anonymous' account also seems to do nothing. Once again, the setting does stick though.

Observations / suggestion:

I notice that there is a placeholder for 'multicommunities'. And I think I came across one or two other things that are placeholders / leftovers from Infinity. So it's all good, everything from app to the platform itself is WiP.

My suggestion is that for now, while we can't create or add multicommunities and have a bit of variety in our feeds, what about being able to add the local feeds of other instances? So that regardless of which instance I'm signed up in, I can have my Subscribed, Local, All tabs, as well as for eg. a 'World' tab, 'Blåhaj' tab etc. Is this something even remotely possible? Don't think I've seen other apps with this idea either.
