I know that's a direct quote from the developer, but I disagree that is what actually happened.

The Animal Well journey began in two phases, Basso says: a quick stab at a Metroidvania-styled prototype in 2012, and a bespoke engine project that he took more seriously, which he began coding alone in 2014 during his day job's off hours.

It was 2017, and some of the design ideas from his 2012 Metroidvania lark had continued pulling on him, so Basso "wrote off" his 3D engine as "a learning experience" and started anew with 2D search action as a priority.

It seems clear to me the prototype did more heavy lifting than he's giving credit. He clearly had an established vision beginning with the prototype. He spent three years thinking 3D was the best way to achieve that goal, but that goal was clearly based on the prototype. At some point it was clear that 3D was drifting away from the core, so the switch to 2D and a renewed focus was the answer.

It's also clear that they had a distinct art style in mind from the start.

For his new game, he wanted pixels to scale perfectly to a variety of common screen resolutions, along with visual effects that meshed well with his integer-scaled pixel art.

And that existing engines couldn't meet that distinct art style.

That home-brew engine is what gives the game its unique look and can allow for unique game elements, but that initial prototype was clearly the guide.

Honestly it's not just artists. Most people aren't working their dream job. I'm doesn't mean you don't like your job, but if your dream job paid more, or had more availability, or more security, or whatever it is you'd probably be doing that. Luckily actors typically only have a given job for a few months a year, so they have more flexibility (which is also a risk if you don't have steady work.)

My only regret.

Don't worry, I got the actual match.

Look at my points!

It's not polite, it's calling him out. Trump will say/lie about anything. At one point Trump said exactly this. He didn't mean it, he just said some shit.

Bernie is repeating his own words because occasionally Trump says something good without any intent to follow up.

So Bernie is taking him at his word. He knows Trump will never do it, but if he can call the hypocrite out and trick him into agreeing, why not?

To want to talk about 4D Chess? There it is.

Debian Testing. It isn't "recommended" but it works fine.

Obviously if you want AUR you need an Arch variant, in which case just pick Arch.

Edit: I needed the why, it's up to date enough for me and I know apt well.

Exactly. The Ministry of Truth says _________ (fill in the blank as needed.)

It will sound like a government agency is providing recommendations, but in truth it's whatever Elon says.

It won't have government employees or have to follow government rules. It's just an expensive government contractor with no rules. It won't have to prove itself. Just "the algorithm" that has the answer to any problem. How did it arrive at that answer? Difficult to say, it's proprietary. Assuming any accountability, it won't be uncovered until years after the decision has already been made.

We also have the hanging Namor storyline. Is there someone Namor could be fighting that requires teaming up with Wakanda? Or someone Wakanda could be fighting that requires teaming up with Namor?

Right now the two nations are at peace, but only barely.

If someone can cause problems for them both it's a good reason to have them form a more permanent union. Depending how Captain America: Brave New World goes, since it seems to have a focus on the Celestial in the ocean, that might give them something in common to look at. Namor focused on the ocean, and Wakanda focused on Vibranium vs Adamantium.

Adding to that I think a future T'Challa/Killmonger being seen as a leader, but providing the wrong message could be interesting. Maybe they've already been through this storyline, but made the wrong choice. Not to say they made the story choice, just one that doesn't work in this universe. Assuming the wrong thing. Or going down a track that only leads to a poor victory.

Damn. I assumed you could just pay to win. I'm pretty sure white goes first.

So the 2024 Players Handbook (PHB) is set to release in September. I've already bought and paid for the book. In fact I get early access in early September.

However a bunch of YouTube and other folks got the books much earlier and the embargo for them to talk about it lifted in early August.

So now I have to learn piecemeal how the new rules work. I have to hope whatever YouTube video I watch got the rules right. My only reference is random videos.

Luckily someone did write down a rough outline at https://rpgbot.net/2024-dnd-5e-transition-guide-and-change-log-everything-thats-different-in-the-new-players-handbook/

Anyone else find this to be bullshit? It's like Christmas morning for "influencers" but my gifts arrive in a month.

In short if folks know of a good copy of the 2024 PHB I'd love to read it.
