We've got a 12 year old mixed breed dog (part Irish Wolfhound) with arthritis in her hips and spine and she's really been struggling to get up on our hard floors. My wife did some research and found Dr Buzby's toe grips. They seem expensive for little bits of rubber, but two days in now and they seem to actually work!

That was my first thought when I saw it too, but I went and looked and was reminded how bad my geography knowledge is!

There's really not much in the southern hemisphere. I spent most of my life in Australia and generally thought of Africa and South America as being down under with us, but 2/3 of Africa is above the equator and even 10% of South America is "north".

It's a good read. I have aphantasia and really struggle with reading non fiction. I was able to read, and enjoy, this in a couple of sittings.

Of course! It's amazing how this stuff just flows from the keyboard when you're typing in a shell window, but feels awkward when typing in a Lemmy comment.

That used to be my approach, but since I got symmetric 1Gb/s fibre I've found that if I leave it uncapped anything I download completes in a few minutes and I don't download anything popular so I don't have to worry about uploading too much.

Ha, good point. I'm showing my age here. I understand our modern phone screens have resolution approaching that of good print, but when I think of a screen my brain still defaults to something like a 14" VGA at 57PPI :-)

I'm curious if this relies on the fact that we're looking at on pixelated screens to work. But not so curious that I'll print it out to check.

I used to think that there was hope for humanity. Now, in my late 50s, I'm realising we're fucked.

We've always been fucked by the mega rich that own and control everything but, with more and more people trying to survive here every day, things are getting exponentially worse.

There is no indication at all that any of these rich fucks have any appreciation of the fact that we can't grow indefinitely and we seem doomed to hit peak population (around the year 2100?) in Mad Max, rather than Star Trek, style.

I'm glad I won't be here to see it, but sad that my grandchildren probably will.

Yeah - a few years ago I moved to an area where the Robins returning meant the start of spring. They were here last week.

I'm in the process of replacing all my mp3 (including a lot of V0 and 320) with FLAC. I know that most of the time I can't tell the difference, but I did some testing and in some scenarios with some music I could tell. And, at the size of music files, disk is cheap.
