But like... why babies? We already have way too many of those. We need fewer babies.

If we're going to delve into some seriously murky ethical water here, why not forcus on something there's an actual need for, like organ and blood harvesting? And that would double donor pool by including men as poss-- ...oh. Oh yeah. That's why. -_-

That's already a thing in many countries, an opt-out program for organ donating, so by default they will take my organs if I'm braindead

USA, where abortion is effectively illegal. ~~Went~~ Why can't adoption be a solution?

Suggest like 2 of the most evil doctors you could find so that, actually, YOU could suggest it, The Telegraph

I honestly don't see a problem with that, as long as the woman gave her consent while she was of sound mind. Surrogate pregnancy is already a fairly common thing; this is just extending it to after one is brain-dead.

Obviously if it's done nonconsensually that's an entirely different matter, and is a horrifying idea (imagine miraculously waking up from an 8 month coma only to find you're pregnant with someone else's child).

Two responses, channeling the defenseless future conscripts forced into this world literally to fill a “recruitment” quota:

“Don’t build a person if you do not intend to be their ally.” — The Terraformers (2023)

and

“No! No! No! No! No!” — Team Four Star

It's an okay, morally ambiguous policy if you reduce pregnancy to a completely autonomous process like pooping. Pregnancy involves medical visit, and a lot of "how do you feel?" moments that a braindead person is incapable of doing.

It's the same dismissive thinking that suggests a robot can be a fry cook, what happens when an oddly shaped food item gets in a gear and it spills oil on the floor, who's gonna clean it up?

The cleansing power of fire, most likely.

True, but you can't always be sure someone is truly brain-dead.

What does this have to do with capitalism?

[–] [email protected] 108 points 3 months ago (6 children)

Capitalists are freaking out over the declining birthrate because anyone with a brainstem knows "AI" and robots won't replace human workers for a long time, and the machine is hungry.

[–] [email protected] 41 points 3 months ago (3 children)

It seems like its just ethno-nationalists freaking out. Capitalists have been tackling this problem with immigration for a long time.

Capitalism is when bad stuff

[–] [email protected] 38 points 3 months ago (2 children)

If it becomes a thing capitalists could try to implement systems that make more brain dead women than would exist naturally, so that there are more babies to become workers. Look at for profit prisons and how we have more people in prison than any other country. If they want something they can pay to get it

But this came out of a public university in Colombia. Nobody ever suggested doing it for profit.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 3 months ago (1 children)

More babies = more future workers = $$$

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

Same logic for communism too.
