Discussion of climate, how it is changing, activism around that, the politics, and the energy systems change we need in order to stabilize things.

As a starting point, the burning of fossil fuels, and to a lesser extent deforestation and release of methane are responsible for the warming in recent decades: Graph of temperature as observed with significant warming, and simulated without added greenhouse gases and other anthropogentic changes, which shows no significant warming

How much each change to the atmosphere has warmed the world: IPCC AR6 Figure 2 - Thee bar charts: first chart: how much each gas has warmed the world. About 1C of total warming. Second chart: about 1.5C of total warming from well-mixed greenhouse gases, offset by 0.4C of cooling from aerosols and negligible influence from changes to solar output, volcanoes, and internal variability. Third chart: about 1.25C of warming from CO2, 0.5C from methane, and a bunch more in small quantities from other gases. About 0.5C of cooling with large error bars from SO2.

Recommended actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions in the near future:

Reminds me of this man, over exactly 100 years ago. To quote:

On October 30, 1924, Midgley participated in a press conference to demonstrate the apparent safety of tetraethyl lead (TEL), in which he poured TEL over his hands, placed a bottle of the chemical under his nose, and inhaled its vapor for sixty seconds, declaring that he could do this every day without succumbing to any problem.

Isn't drinking pollution the same thing that the guy who invented leader gasoline did? But he allegedly faked it, naturally.

Oh but Kamala changed her stance in a tight race so fuck her am I right?

Kamala Harris refused to take any steps to distance herself from an unpopular incumbent in order to motivate people to vote for her. Stop punching down, the people we need to be angry at are our “leaders”.

Punching "down" at a major party political candidate? Yeah, right.

I was saying blaming voters for the Harris campaigns failures is punching down.

Oh I stipulate that mistakes were made, but voting for right wing fascists because she's not a great candidate is a bit stupid.

I doubt many people who would have voted Harris voted for Trump. Trump basically got the same amount of votes he did last time, but dem turnout collapsed because Harris ran a center right campaign that didn’t resonate with her base. All the fucking idiots that ran that campaign need to be pilloried. They delivered us to fascism because they can’t stand their own base and would rather appeal to nonexistent decent republicans.
