Somehow my comment disappeared into the ether.

I am out with the masses after a late dinner of wagyu beef roll wirh dipping gravy. Om nom.

What dis weather, though.

Humid and ambient heat seeping through the pores of the city.

The rain has not yet arrived. Can it hurry up I want the hot day rain smell.

Melbcat keeps licking herself in the exact same place and has made an itchy hotspot…

I can’t find her cone of shame to stop her and it’s a hassle to buy a bib but I managed to get a baby onesie that might fit over her upper body and stop her accessing it.

if it's stress, I got misha one of those fake fur spreads from the reject shop and she obsessively grooms that when upset instead.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

Yeah it started during cleaning for an inspection (she hates cleaning and I’d run out of zylkene) and it’s persisted for some reason. She’s back on the zylkene but a lower dose than previously

I have a faux fur blanket but she doesn’t lick it

Walking in the drizzle listening to music is one of my favourite activities. Fuck yeah.

Edit: Tonight was a good night. Have been feeling extra isolated lately. Saw some friends and just had dinner and chatted. Grateful they came to hang out.

Can't wait to move closer to civilisation.

Great. That’s all I need.

I think the split system using AC is leaking into the roof and wet spots and stuff have appeared.

Only noticed it today.

No proof that it the AC but I can’t think of any recent rain that could have caused it.

Dammit :(

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

From experience get on top of that asap. trust me.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago

Just trying not to stress about it but I guess I am and it’s coming out in really bad ways right now

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago

I’ll have to.

It’s appeared in strange spots but I’m not sure how the piping was down and is actually causing the wet spots

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 days ago

Still waiting for the rain here.....come on sky gods.....let me have it!

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Also, question: I've wondered for a while and you don't have to answer, is wscholermann a reference to Wilhelm Schölermann? Or is it more esoteric than that? :)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I can't say exactly but what I will tell is that it's not Wilhelm!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

Oooooo mysterious!! Thank you!

Just got through the first season of Happy Valley. For all the typical story beats, dang is this well acted and the dialogue tightly written... Sarah Lancashire is amazing. And I absolutely want to murder Tommy Lee Royce.

Also strikes me how much technology had changed in ten years. None of the kids are glued to mobile devices...

E: that pizza absolutely hit the spot too, perfectly greasy and salty and spiced and faux-meaty. I'm ready for bed soon I think.

I'm sold. 🙂

I've already had dinner. I'm not even hungry and yet I seem to want McDonald's. So random.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago

Been sweating? Might be craving the salt

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

dinner has been cooked and eat. I had a shake and one thai small chicken skewer with onion and capsicum, no sauce on it.

There is also pineapple fried rice.

num, skewers

spoiler

I rilly want to eat some more

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

I'm incredibly impressed with your mental fortitude if you resisted. But if you didn't, I completely understand. Especially with the pineapple. Oh boy.

I knew cardboard would be a terrible canvas (hence attempts at sealing) and only for early practice but wow. Even with the layer of medium underneath it basically drank the paint. Which I knew it would but not to this degree.

Paint rambles

Despite trying to coat thinly and smoothly it was impossible to avoid streaking and brush marks because the acrylic Anko paint actually started drying while I was still working and I had to use much more of it at once to spread it.

What I should have done was mix in some of the clear medium so it wouldn’t dry so fast. It would have been less pigmented which is bad because it took thick layers to even show up, but it wouldn’t have looked so rough. Upside is I won’t mind that this is disposable. But it took most of both my tubes of yellow. I should have just ordered poster paint.

I’ve been trying not to feed them as much but one of the magpies approached me when I went out to rinse my brush under an outside tap. Flew right up close and looked at me. It looked like a female maybe. Broken top beak. I nipped inside to grab some of Melbcat’s pet jerky and threw the magpie some crumbled pieces.

I’m wondering if I’ve done a bad and made the magpies too dependent and trusting of humans. Also worried about whether this bird can eat properly. But I’m not going to be able to catch it for treatment.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

fast drying happens on these too hot days

for spreading maybe use a piece of plastic or card , not a brush which is too slow ( I have been reading many books on painting lately , I painted the furniture and am doing watercolours too )

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I do have some expired Myki cards

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Nah, a one off won't do damage. But it does mean you're unlikely to get swooped

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

I was feeding them a fair bit before. (High quality high protein nutritionally complete cat food from a bag Melbcat didn’t like.)

A bit worried if this bird is ok

I wish! Here in Thornbury the temperature has dropped, the wind has dropped, but not the rain. Yet. Sticky and not pleasant rn.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago

The cool change has come across at just the right time. It has cooled down enough that I could take Mr Woof for our after work walk, and we are done in plenty of time to avoid the rain.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago

I am hearing the rains

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I already had some cardboard I’d sealed with water based gloss medium, intended for painting on. And a bunch of brushes. So I picked the largest flat brush and painted a thin layer of dark yellow. When that’s dry I’ll do another and then a few layers of light yellow.

It bugs me to be using up my paints (especially one colour) but having a practical need did lead to actually using it.

Good ocean swim. Needed that.
