Contemplating going back to my home town Tuesday to form an anti racist protest as a reaction of Geert Wilders and his anti immigrant protest over there. But it's at 6 and I have a job and it's over an hour drive so probably won't make it. Just hope others are able to then.

If anyone ever wants to know something about the cluster fuck that is Belgian politics:

Belgium is devided into a Dutch speaking part and a French speaking part. As a result, most parties have grown into a Dutch side or a French side. This can lead to either one being elected for government. This is now the case with the socdems. The Dutch part of Vooruit is elected to rule with the neolibs while their French part PS is not. Vooruit is going along with the budget cuts while PS is fighting against it. Literally fighting against their own party.

They even share the same building in Brussels. Can you imagine having to work on finding ways to do opposition while possibly sitting next to your coworker working on government plans?

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 27 minutes ago (1 children)

This just leads to the question, of why would you opt to split your party like this. All it does is puts you at a disadvantage, your on the hook for all the terrible things that are done AND you still opposed any good thing your party was able to force through

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 16 minutes ago

I don't understand either. Out party doesn't do it and remains one party throughout the country. Much easier.

Another stabbing in the city. This time a guy got stabbed by a woman after allegedly harrassing her friend. Which, if true, based of course.

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 29 minutes ago

Why do I feel like there will be a prade of people saying the harrasment is bad but it should not be a death sentence... and that he should have gone without consiquinces starting now

There's this absolutely brain dead tv show in The Netherlands on the most stupid tv channel there is but one of the people in it is called El Che. That's his first name and I'm only slightly jealous.

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 10 hours ago

I looked it up. According to him, Che is because there was a character in "Goede tijden, slechte tijden" with that name and El is because of Elvis Presley.

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

funny fact, "El Che" literally means "a dude"

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 17 hours ago

"I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing."

So Jeff Bezos can rent out the entire city of Venice for his wedding and all the media are so quirky about it like it's not a fucking bizarre thing to do

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Its funny that he is going to be divorced in like 2-3 years tops anyways.

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Depending on the prenup Jeff Bezos might enter history known as the man that is responsible for one of the richest woman on earth, twice.

Spanish should be the Lingua Franca of the Americas, seeing as it's the most spoken language there. An Argentinian or Ecuadorian should be able to go to Milwaukee or Saskatoon and talk to the people there in Spanish. I hate English language imperialism.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

As a native spanish speaker, hell yea it should.

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago

Lingua Franca? More like Lengua Hispana am I right

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oddly enough the only place that seems to be fighting English impearialism at all is Qubec in (Mostly) English speaking Canada

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago

But they are trying to make people speak FRENCH, which is arguably worse and a war crime.

I often wonder what life in the DPRK is like and today I figured: someone must have uploaded some google maps pictures. And there are indeed some photos from ground level DPRK and it's really cool to see.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

I checked and now I wonder how does google access data about the weather in each city in there...

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

it's so clean, even the countryside looks clean.

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 16 hours ago

libs will look at pictures of the DPRK with its clean streets, people riding bicycles, no ugly ads plastered all over, etc. and think "this is hell"

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

I am shocked google allowes decent photos from the DPRK to be honest

[โ€“] [email protected] 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Dear comrade Kim Jong Un watching you have fun in the water slide that was prepared with care for every citizen.

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Would I be allowed to use the slide dispite not being a citizen

[โ€“] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Of course! You just have to check with any available tour guide so they can guide you to visit this place!

[โ€“] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

will my guide accompany me on board the slide to ensure I am not attempting to sabotage the state? If not, how can I convince them to?

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

Good question ๐Ÿค”

Thought I had about liberal individualism: It's well-illustrated by the scene from the movie Office Space, where the boss is chastising the employee about her flair and people who do the "bare minimum." Because of policy, he can't just tell her to wear more flair than the minimum, but he still very much wants her to do so, so rather than getting the policy changed (which would be "restrictive" and go against the concept of "being yourself"), he tries to convince her through repeated shaming and browbeating and talking around it. The whole thing centers around him trying to convince her that she wants to be someone who wears more flair and comes off very passive-aggressive because it has no real understanding or respect for her as a person, only this sort of facade of respect that is grudgingly given.

I think it also fits well with the notion about "scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds." Because it helps show how underneath liberal individualism, there is this aggressive desire for conformity and adherence to a strict way of being. But the norms of liberalism say you're not supposed to directly pursue that, lest you become "authoritarian", so people find passive-aggressive ways to pursue it instead. End result being you get this confused cocktail of mixed messages, where you're simultaneously being told you should live your life how you want to live it, while also being told you better only live it within a very narrow framework.

Maybe the only upside of this NATO meeting is that the world is now able to see the walking clown show that is Mark Rutte

[โ€“] [email protected] 10 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

He is the walking example of a career politician being a glorified ass kisser. It should be an eye opener to NATO countries citizens on who is the real boss.

[โ€“] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

I am going to take a guess that it is the country who's leader he called daddy?

Currently having a sticker war with some nazi shit in my hood. They keep placing stickers that say stuff like: hand in hand back to your own land. The weird thing is that these are Dutch org stickers for some reason.

Anyway they are very unfortunate that I have probably a thousand commie and antifascist stickers that I can keep placing on top of it. I just hope to catch the person in the act one day.

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

That is also just a really odd slogan, the hand in hand is anthetical in message to the second part
