My dog would do this but with shoes. She would also take your shoes and hide them if she sensed you were getting ready to go out.

My dog once ate a whole loaf a bread while I was gone. I guess the best place to guard it is in your belly.
I had a cat that would do this. But he would also eat a bite of every slice. Just to make sure they were all the same and that he didn't like any of them.
